Jamboree route test
I think Hani is too tired from yesterday's trip, so I will make the report
We were about 77 cars .. Looooooong convoy ..
All came on time, and we moved around 2.00 p.m. heading to Al Khatim
the route was nice, the sand was great and the weather was even greater ... Although we had too many stucks, I think everybody enjoyed and had fun.
The ANITs did very well .. minimum stucks

Re: Jamboree route test
My friends had a good day and really enjoyed it.
Just a couple of observations:
We need to think about how we can split the group up slightly, or at least how we can manage when one person gets stuck. Thoughts have been to have a marshal (or someone) direct the group around the stuck so the convoy continues.
The other thing is where we ended, it was around 25-30km to the nearest petrol station - can we end up somewhere closer or should we have marshals/club members on hand to assist with inflation on the side of the road?
All in all, as I said, my friends had a blast so well done us.

Re: Jamboree route test
I had a lot of fun seeing so many faces again at one trip!
@tillybean: the al kathim petrol station was from the end point around 5km away. Should be fine for the newbees.
I can just compare the test drive with the "union bank" drive and it worked this time much better then with the strategy before. For the union bank drive the big group was split in groups of 10cars & 1 marshal. To let the full group run and have marshals along the track was in my opinion an much smoother run and less chaotic. But in the jamboree will be less intermediate, advances and explorers (at least % wise)
My advise, upgrade as many people as you can to marshals before! This battle you can just win with quantity

My dear tillybean, can you imagine how many times I made suggestions like that?
I think, you have to get used to the fact, that nobody is listening to us anyway!

Re: Jamboree route test
It was all nice
Lot of cars, big convoy, "few minor stucks"
Most of it went smooth. Since first cars who arrived - till the time i got to last point - it was interval of around 40 min.
Could be more if not Smiley going around Stuck Ground
Some trouble understanding who is who, and who is not from our convoy.
But in total, for 70+ cars, i guess it was really smooth.

Re: Jamboree route test
Thanks all for organizing this trip, was great to see so many cars on the road. And hearing Sam on Radio 2 talking about us on the way to deflation point, was a nice bonus. And an excellent request btw!
Also, thanks to all the marshals who assisted along the way and who pointed out the right direction. The track was easy to drive because of the rain, so the sand was all firmed up. Was tempted to stick to 2H, but well...wouldn't be good for the deflated tires to put all the stress on the front wheels
Seriously, was the first time for me to drive on wet sand and it's a huge difference with dry desert sand. Very interesting to experience.
As for the idea of splitting up in separate groups, dunno if that would really make a difference as many of the stucks i saw were by experienced drivers...

Re: Jamboree route test
i had good time
i needed from time to time to go bit to the front part of the convoy
i kept on driving on the side and the convoy kept on stretching
thats what we call a biiiig convoy
the BBQ was very wet, cold and Nice
we had the shisha and dinner under the rain around the fire
it was a nice site to be recorded
for organizing such a trip again, some more ideas and plans have to
be set and tested to run such convoy perfectly
BUT considering the number of cars and all the other factors i can admit
that all in all it was good, i think every body was happy
all the stucks was managed and took care of in the same manner and standard
of AD4x4, no body was left behind, no body asked for any help that he did not get it
and for that 10/10 for you guys
i vote for doing it again this season
it was nice experiance
Mrs. Media Manager
what if we can arrange a bird view pictures and video for such convoy
i think it will rock the YouTube

Re: Jamboree route test
thanks to all members and marshals who did their best to keep the convoy organized, it was a good route, but i wish i can say "another successful ad4x4 trip" but i can't, over all trip was good, convoy was LONG, i was surprised that the 77 cars were in 1 convoy.
my observations are:
1- lake of Marshals, i saw some "none rated" members recovering ANITs and new members.
2- some of the drivers totally ignored the marshals advise to not do a slide over the hard sand dunes.
3- i highly agree with Tillybean, we should have a technique were we can manage the convoy if one person got stuck, a team (not necessary marshals) can be on side of the convoy, ready to interact and re-route the convoy once a stuck happen without interfering with the recovery team.
4- More ad4x4 media coverage needed.
in the end, we had a great gathering around the fire, under the rain, "dancing" (at least me), having shesha and some snacks.
again, thank you all for making it a nice trip.
