Le Mirage Trip Report

We left the meeting point for the first checkpoint – Hameem petrol station. After fuelling we found the road to the resort closed due to road work. The temporary diversion passed by the petrol station and the camps. The “short cut” did not work well; return and first stucks.
The usual “check-in ceremony” and we were ready for the Liwa sand. A six car convoy, with thabit as our sweeper taking care that no Newbie was left behind, started with an easy tricky entry. The first descent towards the archery stand scared some Newbies and a good look before descending produced the necessary relief.
The 32 km trip was stamped with tricky spots, soft sand and uninterrupted stretches. Our Newbies did very well. Mabrouk.
Towards the end of the trip we could “feel” some tautness and “stress”. Bute finally everybody was happy and prepared for a good buffet.
But now I felt the “pressure”. The Newbies demanded more; another trip on Saturday. Well how could I resist? We agreed for a BBT (before breakfast trip) with a start at 06.45, ready for the rising sun. We parked our cars atop the dune near the Qasr for the “photo shooting. Thereafter we betake to a “clockwise trip”. Two minor stucks while driving with an empty stomach, a respectable achievement. Nevertheless I could hear some stange noise originating from the stomach and commenced the return to the resort.
Here a rich and good breakfast buffet was ready to be tried out.
Finally an interesting weekend with great people passed by too fast. I enjoyed another weekend at the Qasr Al Sarab but especially the trip with our Newbies.
Hope to see you again soon.
