Seeing as how your secretary is still on holiday.....

We all met on time - 9am!!!! - at ADNOC near the airport and headed to Sweihan to pick up our VIP guest. Entering into Sweihan we pretty soon hit some excellent dunes which I had never been on before and they were great fun.

The trip started out with Wasabi leading and Waqar took over later in the day. You can't beat a trip where you have the two W's marshaling and Gladi supporting!!

Everyone did brilliantly. We had some stucks and then we had a couple of STUCKS! One up the side of a dune which required a very technical recovery with safety anchors on another car. We had one pop out - after Peter exclaimed that he was surprised he hadnt had one....by jingo 10 minutes later he got his wish. I got to see a hi-jack in motion and was really impressed by its capabilities.

We did manage a break at around 2.30pm and were all grateful of the shade provided by Peter's awning...nifty idea. Gladi was happy to have his shisha and then we went back out in the sand.

I loved the challenging dunes, the high ones that we could climb, and I really liked the step ones...if that makes sense, ie, you climb up one bit of dune onto a flat, then another bit of a climb onto a flat and finally another bit of a climb. That was cool.

Everyone drove really well and the group was great. We finally stopped around 5pm where we crossed paths with Watheqs team, having seen Triploads group heading out on the road.

Thanks to Wasabi and Waqar for a great and new route. Really liked the area and would love to go back.

PS - loved the feeling of the jeep with the mods. Got to play a little and like the lift and really felt the benefits of the air intake where I got some extra oomph when needed. Am getting used to the extra height....finally!

Oops!!!! You missed a great day out. We saw a gazelle and a huge (well fairly big) lizard. Can't believe you set your alarm for a night drive!!
