We had 27 cars registered for the drive and the plan was to split the convoy between -V- (Ahmad), Michal and myself.
With no fog, most of the cars arrived on time with some no shows.
After an initial welcome, all the drivers were split into the individual convoys for separate briefings
Below trip report is for the ANIT+ NWB<5 trips convoy. Other trip leads would add their trip reports here as well.
Convoy
Ajesh (Lead)
Udo (Second lead)
Kjell
Cbott89
Wallus
Rpadela
Shirinbahis
Bimalnair
Jithu (Sweeper)
We had an extended briefing covering some of the basics ,equipment required and convoy etiquettes.
We started the trip by 9 am. The track chosen was the first range to the right of the bu tais entry. This as we have recently been observing, is an ideal newbie track with vast open spaces and small crests .
We started off slowly with simple driving through the valleys and slowly increased the level as the drivers' confidence improved. We practised straight cresting many times and also drove through different dune formations.
Some assisted recoveries and second tries were needed which was handled promptly. The drivers did very well and we did almost 25 km of desert driving .
Thanks to Jithu for being a very strong sweeper and being everywhere for helping the drivers.
Till next time..

Re: Newbies to Butais
Thank you Ajesh for organising, it was a great day and my first lead after a full year! We did the usual briefing and set up the convoy order:
- Flaghunter
- Christohe** (second lead)
- RafiqMd
- Sulane1977
- OskarB
- Dileep
- ghost rider*** (sweeper)
We drove to the main Bu Tais dunes. After crossing the sabkha we warmed up to the West a little bit, before turning East into the higher dunes. It was a challenging (but safe of course) trip for the newbies with plenty of second, third, and ... tenth tries! After a chit chat break by the Bu Tais Trees, we headed back towards the start through the dunes. As we passed Mark's intermediate convoy, we exited the dunes and headed back to inflation.
All drivers did very well and I hope you learned something new. Thank you Christophe for the second lead and a massive shout out to Zak (ghost rider) for the excellent support and clear communication at the back of the convoy. Till next time!
