Myself, Mhamidi001, denizci, and Marcolino333 met up at 7AM in Madinat Zayed, then continued to the deflation point further down the road and had a briefing. The trip target was the sunken Yellow Truck, half buried in the middle of the desert since many years back. We took off with Mhamidi001 as 2nd lead, followed by Marcolino333 and sweeper denizci.

The first part of the drive is in rather flat terrain and then gradually the dunes become larger, some of them really big. The times I have been in this area, the sand has been very soft. So also today. The terrain is also different from the areas we usually drive in around Abu Dhabi, with frequent “half bowls” that are fun to approach on the flats and then go on bigger side slopes.

We spent around 50 km driving on to the truck, in all sorts of terrain, high and low, bigger sideslopes and slipfaces as well. All did really well demonstrating good control and decision making based on the sand conditions. We stopped for a chat and photography at the Yellow Truck, then took a shorter more direct route back to the inflation which we met at around 11 AM. In total, about 80km driven in the desert this morning.

It was a nice drive in an area that I highly recommend.

See you soon in the sand.

Thomas

Very nice experience. I've never been in that area before and it is very surprising how the desert can be very different from one spot to another. We drove almost all the time in a "virgin" sand which gave me the impression of a real desert "road trip" in the middle of nowhere. The terrain changes very suddenly, there were big slopes after very flat area, unpredictable for my unexperienced eyes. The sand was so soft in certain areas that was even hard to leave pneumatic tracks... Anyway tompa-bjorka drove us safely to the yellow truck, which was very impressive by the way. We practiced some side slopes and dune descending on this quite big and very soft sand "half bowls", very nice experience.
Thanks to tompa-bjorka and all the crew for the nice morning.
