[The Baron]

The trip was supported by:

All drivers meet at the ADNOC petrol station in Al Fayadha at 07:00 and, after 15 minutes of greetings, left for the deflation point nearby.

At the deflation point, all drivers prepped the cars and after a short briefing, going through the drive, basic safety rules, radio channel and convey order, the trip started at 07:45.

The convey order was:
- Lead: The Baron (René)
- 2nd lead; Ayfas (Shajumon)
- Florian (Tomat)
- cmj1388 (Chrismon)
- Sweeper; Mr Magoo (Rob)

Marshals Thomas and Ahmad and Explorer Thomas supported from the back.

The first hour of the trip was in very soft sand, gripping the tires and holding the cars, and the dunes were small and irregular, which were challenging (and caused a few second tries and sticks), so avoided high pace and long side cresting and focused on technical driving.

After an hours drive, the sand became much firmer (and red) with open desert and some larger dunes, that offered a very different drive - higher speed, longer side cresting, etc. Very scenic area, with a mouse, foxes and gazelles sighted.

Stopped for breakfast/lunch at around 10:30, which provided a welcome break in the shadow of the car(s).

Due to first segment of the trip taking longer than expected, we changed direction before reaching the targeted waypoint (campsite from a Francis trip in Nov ‘18) and drove east towards the second waypoint (camel farm). Tried to gain some distance, so kept a good speed and tried to stay on the open desert.

At the camel farm, we adjusted the waypoint to the exit point and started driving in a very technical area, before moving across the camel farm area to the nicer red sand and dunes, where we manage to get a few more side slopes and side cresting.

Towards the end of the trip, Florian had a flat tire and, after a quick replacement, decided to exit the desert at the nearby gatch road and take the gatch road to the inflation point at Razeen Road, which we reached just before 13:30.

It was a very enjoyable trip, offering a longer and varied drive in a beautiful desert area, with a great group of drivers.

Total distance covered was 90+ kilometers, over 6 hours!

Thanks to all the drivers, who did very well and really demonstrated good technical skills, and the marshals and Explorer for the support.
