Most of us met already at the petrol station on the way to the meeting point, refueling the cars for a nice morning in the desert.
At the official deflation point in Tilal Sweihan - where we celebrated season opening last Friday – we split in two convoys, an advance one under Ahmad’s leadership and an intermediate one lead by myself. The advance Convoy went towards Al Khatim, whereas our convoy headed straight towards West to hit Al Faya Road.
The temperature was nice at least for the first two hours and we quickly made our way through the small and medium dunes. The sand was soft and the pace was fast and we made good progress and after a little over 2 hours we had already 2/3 of the way behind us.
We used the remaining time to play a little more in the dunes, including a number of nice side slopes on our way towards the exit point.
We met some wildlife on the way, two foxes and a lot of living and some dead camels.
We also had a couple of breaks to refresh ourselves, chat, relax and admire the rock formations you find in some areas between the dunes.
We finished the trip at 10:45 h after 54 km, with a number of stucks and second tries, all expertly managed by the team. All drivers demonstrated good handling of their cars and of the terrain.
Special tanks to Dan for a solid second lead, Paul being an attentive sweeper and Sunet for her cheerful comments...
Hope you all enjoyed the trip and see you all in the sand
