We met a little before 09:00 h in somewhat bleak weather – at least compared to Abu Dhabi standard conditions - at Khazna deflation point. However, the mood was sunny as we started our adventure. One driver did not show up, so that we had a convoy of four.

Walid took the position of second lead, Ahmed as the sweeper and Dion was in the middle.

Sand conditions were similar to the day before, i.e. the dunes had a somewhat darker appearance and the sand was firm and smooth.
We went into the dunes towards the East of the starting point first and found some nice higher dunes for practicing side-sloping. We then continued to the flat area in the North and crossed a few flat areas and sand ridges to eventually reach the dune ridges of Al Faya, aka Mark’s kingdom.

We made our way through the dunes towards West with a mix of more technical driving and side-sloping in more open areas. Eventually we reached the ending point at the radio tower at Al Faya road. Close to the end of the trip we could even admire the king and two of it’s knights patrolling the crests of the highest dunes.

At that time the wind had picked up substantially to almost becoming a storm. The air was full of sand, so we were glad to get back into our cars after inflating the tyres and head home.

Thanks to my 3 fellow drivers. You did an excellent job without anybody getting stuck and mastered all situations with bravado.
Hope all enjoyed the trip and see you all in the sand

Thomas
