Wow, this was an exciting adventure even before the trip started. I was planning a relaxed Newbie trip supported by Marshal Pharaoh with max 7 cars... However, it didn’t take long and the trip was full and the waiting list grew bigger and bigger. At some point 28 Newbie drivers wanted to join the trip!

So we had many more cars than I could properly handle. Luckily we managed a happy ending as some Marshals volunteered to lead additional convoys. Special thanks to Michael, Adiga and Mark.
Also many thanks to the expert and explorer support provided by Atari, Raul, Rob and Osama.

Some of the Newbie registrants cancelled their attendance before the trip, but unfortunately about 10 didn’t show up and found it unnecessary or didn’t have the time or just forgot to cancel in due time.
As a reminder, it helps the trip leader and organizer tremendously to know who is eventually coming and who is not. So if you can’t make it please inform the trip leader and cancel your attendance on the website as early as possible to make space for others.

This trip report only covers the convoy I was leading. I leave it to Michael and Adiga to report on theirs if they wish to do so.

After allocating the drivers to the convoys we started with the ANIT safety briefing as we had 3 absolute beginners in the team (thanks Raul for providing your equipment).
As ANIT introduction takes its time we were the last convoy to start the trip moving into the Khazna dunes. After warming up we tried some straight cresting which everybody managed well and I increased the level a bit.

After an hour or so I handed over to Raul for a part lead who did this very well. Towards the end we crossed the gatch road and went to the other side. I took the reigns again and lead the convoy to the base camp where we gathered for a BBQ. The ones who couldn’t attend were escorted out of the desert to the inflation point which marked the end of this Newbie trip.

Thanks to all Newbie drivers for joining, Nanda for a solid second lead, Rob for sweeping and Raul and Khalid for supporting all around.
See you soon in the sand.

Thomas
