Newbie Trip Khazna / Khatim PM 4 May (Convoy 2)

This trip report is for Convoy 2 of the newbie level trip announced by Marshall irfpk, with the following drivers:

With the briefing done and convoy order set, we left the meeting point and headed initially north and then to the west in the general direction of Al Khatim north. The weather was warm and clear for the drive but the rain earlier in the week provided a reasonably firm base to drive on compared to the usual soft sand we are more accustomed to.

As we tracked west, we enjoyed the wide open area and got used to how the cars handled in the conditions. We had plenty of opportunities along the way to negotiate straight crests and some gentle roller coaster areas to play in. We had one stuck on a crest that required a small assist with a snatch rope that showed how the firmer sand can easily cause hangups in comparison to the more forgiving soft dry sand we normally encounter.

The latter part of the drive we found some tighter dunes to practice in before finally reaching a small lake that had been formed by the recent rains. With team pictures done with the lake as backdrop we continued by gatch to the end point where we met up with the other convoy to end the drive.
