Desertpirates trip 14/11 - report
Abu Dhabi group met at Adnoc airport road and left at 9.15 heading towards Sweihan where we met Jo, Tweety and Chico.
After deflation and briefing we hit the sand around 10.30. The start was quite challenging with a lot of cresting, sidesloping and quite high dunes. After a coffee break we continued towards Al Khatim and more long nice sideslopes was on the schedule. After a while "Kalemero brothers" was almost out of gas so we decided to drop them off at the road and continue towards Al Khatim.
After one of the stops Elias jumps into the car and says that one of our brand new OME-shocks isnt yellow anymore but silver colored 8O
I checked and the upper attachment point had broken, the shock leaning backwards and was squeezed between the fueltank and the exhaustpipe which meant an abrupt end of the trip. Instead of doing the last dunes towards the BBQ-area where we were supposed to meet Mike's group we had to use the gravel road back. In true AD4x4 spirit everybody went along escorting my limping jeep
After reaching the inflation point I called Mike and asked him where they were and he replied that he needed a winsch. The result was that Jo took the lead of the group while I went to Al Khatim to repair. After three hours the shock was in place again and since the BBQ was about to end we went back to AD. I hope you enjoyed the food
We had quite many stucks today which I think meant that the route was challenging enough Huge thanks to Triplod for his recovery service. Many thanks also to Tweety for a perfect 2nd lead. Kalemero and CoolAtti2ud for sweeping 8) Thanks Jo for taking the group and handing them over to Mike since I had to leave.
The group - you all did well. It was a challenging route but I think you all enjoyed based on the smiles on your faces.
Lion - You handle the Prado very confident
Jacques - Finally you got the chance to drive a real Jeep and you did well
Divewithyou - Nice driving you too and welcome back after a long time
Heinz - I am really impressed the way you handle your Cherokee
9Ball - It was tough sidesloping in the back when the sand was soft but you rocked 8)
Thanks for a great day and I am sorry I ruined the final part of the trip but that means we have to do it again soon
Big thanks also to Mike who took care of the group and I am sure he treated you well.
I will be on a businesstrip from 21/11 to 28/11 but there will be trips during the Eid so keep your eyes open
C U Soon and once again thanks for another wonderful AD4x4 day in the sand.

Many thanks Viking. This was really a great trip!!! I really enjoyed the route your showed us. Sometimes quite challenging 8O , but i learned a lot trying to follow you. Surely a great first intermediate trip for me!
Also i'd like to compliment you on the way you run your trips. Very well prepared and organized. Really allows us to enjoy our time in the sand.
Thanks also to Tweety, Jo and Triplod for keeping an eye on us and keeping us safe, and giving us a little push or pull if necessary
And also many thanks to the Kalemero and Coolati2ude for the great shows and JEEP demonstrations during the breaks NICE!
Can't wait till the next trip!

Viking you are great,
Very nice trip, i was waiting for one of these for long time.
Good to hear that your sick jeep is recovering.
i learnet allot today, and now i can say i know my prado's limits.
i tried my best to learn how to manage the crests without a big bang, some went great and some with a bang and some with stucks.
i used the low gear for the first time in this trip, i realised how usefull it is and makes your ride much easier with no need of pushing full gas to climb.
Triplod, you had a very busy day today, thank you for the recovery.
Jo great to see very experianced marshals like you with high confedance.
Tweety, thanks for keeping an eye on me behind you.
Great chat and laugh with all of you guys.
Looking forward to another one of these.

Viking, again you've outdone yourself. Amazing, well organised trip, and excellent route. I really enjouy your trips and will try and join most of them. Bad luck about your suspension shock, but also a lesson for all of us - check the bolt fixings on all moving parts, specially the lift kits, this could happen to all of us with out warning. Glad your Jeep is OK Eric. Thanks Triplod for your recovery service, busy day for you. Thanks to Kalemero and CoolAtt2ud for sweeping. Till next time.
