Report: ANIT - Friday, 17.07.2009

Who said ANITS in summer are close to suicide? The master of ANIT proved me wrong! You need only to select the briefing/demo location carefully.
Thus he did. We all gathered at 15:00h in the public garden in front of the Sweihan Guest House. The shade of a tree gave gave for outsiders the impression of a family having a picknik on the lawn rather than a bunch of new offroaders eager to grap the secrets of planing, preperations and runing a successfull a trip in our marvelous sand-pit.

At 16:00h we moved on to the deflation point and after the trip briefing, we hit the sand. All managed the route well. The cassualty liest is short: a Landcruiser with burnt clutch (hope you made it save home) and a Pajero with the standard on the fly rear-bumper modification (don't worry buddy, this is the accolade for Mistsubishi pilots).

The standard Sweihan track with crossing of the service track, heading to the sabkah, passing the lake visit to "the tree", around the big D., crossing the small oasis, climbing to the "race & playground", followed by the passage in the valley and back to the sabkah where we had a looooong break with chat and laughter till 20:00h. The firework of the lightnings over Al Ain and the upcomming breeze made it hard to leave.

Some inflated at the Gate, others on the road but we all met later again at the Sweihan ADNOC for a last laugh, shake hands and goodby, promissing that we will mwwt again in the sand.

I have been wanting to get my work schedule lined up so I could do an ANIT trip and finally all things came together.

Thank Urs for an excellent route and the attention garnering introduction. The demonstrations were very well performed. The course was an excellent choice as we got to experience a variety of sand conditions and my favorite angles and dangles.

Nasser - thank you sir, enjoyed our talks and playing tail end charlie with you as the landcruiser was escorted to saftey; also a good way to avoid being on the video!

Thanks to our sweepers, Tweety and Jo and Chico too.

To my fellow ANITs - was great meeting you all and watching your confidence build as we cruised the trail. Sherif - you sir, are the most improved by the end of the day - great job! Hope your car is well.

Hi all, WAOW WAOW n WAOW...this is how i rated the trip.....it was such a nicely organized trip "ad4x4 speciality"...feeling of family spirit.... this was my 1st ever trip in the summers. I did ANIT as a refreshing+nice lecture with demosntration:)..Urs u were v good...NIce to meet u all...Urs ur nick on the pic doesnt resembles u at all coz u r not agressive in nature.. u r v cool....Jo, tweety, nasser , frank (intermediate) as i pronounced him ...all the new comers it was a pleasure to meet u all......the weather was as expected :veryhot: but the clouds made it a bit easy...at last my modified rear bumper survived...finally i found a cure to pajeros rear bumper ...finally the trip was wonderful...c u guys again on the sand...thanks for the trip n TRANSFORMING nicks into real faces :bravo: ....c u all soon n tc

I've been looking for you long time back, the best one can do knowing the best polite and keen people forming the great family ever.
It was a wonderful day out by all means. It was amazing experience broke the fear inside me and got me know my vehicle capabilities.
The challenging soft, red sand and the dune riding was unforgettable joy.
Thanks Urs for the perfect professional organizing the trip and the convoy.
Thanks to the vigil marshals who were like watching eagles caring for everybody.
Urs, Nasser and Jo thanks a lot for the assistance and compliments.

Finally I made it to an internet connection.

It was a perfect timing. Everybody arrived on time. I enjoyed the time with you guys. All did very well. Buddy Sherif big dunes and long slip faces are now your domain
The first star is on its way. I watched them blinking from the sky in Liwa ready to be attached to our lates Newbies.You may find some missing in the sky.

A sticker is in the ANIT handout (back).

Just remember a few basics (gravity) and you will be safe.

Nasser, Tweety and Jo thank you for your assistance. An ANIT cannot be done without such great help.

Yes, I need to hurry up with that one. First cut was 2 hours long so have to edit the heck out of it. It's down to 90 minutes right now. I have 4.5 hours to edit for the Live Al Khatim trip with Viking plus todays trip with Jax with an unknown collection size. I know where my weekend will be spent! I will PM you when I have it ready.
