Early Bird – Trip Report

No beginners registered fort the Early Bird ANIT but 10 cars made it to the meeting point. Late afternoon registering Bulldozer arrived with a 4 car “convoy” and we had two first timers with us.

At the deflation they received a good “first timer briefing” disclosing the secret of dune driving.We started our cruise with Pumukl as second lead and Frank as the sweeper, while Bulldozer and Antrax where escorting the convoy left, right and center.

Despite some minor difficulties, the two first timers did very well. One Gallopi dared the other one while the Touareg followed the second lead. This sometimes caused some technical troubles and second attempts.

After a good start and good progress I decided it is affordable challenging the higher dunes. Higher dunes, bigger bowls and longer sides combined with soft sand proofed to be the fun for the beginners. But with appropriate advise they “mastered” the dunes.

We all enjoyed al late breakfast or early lunch under the shade of some Ghaf trees.

An easy drive out to the inflation point, inflating the tires and we were ready for the drive back to Abu Dhabi.
