Afaik selling 2nd hand tires is forbidden by law in the UAE...
For shops of course. I dong think it's a matter for private persons.
But I asked once for curiosity and they told me that.

Come on, guys. Don't know about AD, but in Al Quoz I was in several tyre shops, selling second hand. Just 2-3 km from Dubai Traffic Police headquater.
So may be this law is strict, but not compulsory :D

for instence, from my office building i can see the Police helicopter patrolling the roads for catching reckless drivers and "fining" them!

Its the same law in dubai as well. And if they catch a shop / shop owner selling used or refurbished tires the shop will be closed forever.
They consider those tires being a security risk - and i can only agree - i dont wont to have cars around me with poorly refurbished tires from vietnam or from whatever country currently can produce the for the cheapest price.

The weather conditions in the UAE are quit demanding for tires. Still the overall education of drivers in the UAE is not the same as i.e. in Europe or the US - things as security distance are not valued and are only seen as an opportunity to squeeze 3 more cars in between.
Putting this together with possibly exploding tires or just self-disassembling tires ( i.e. because the wrong galvanisation process / rubber was used ) introduces conditions on road i personally dont want to experience. Hence its ok from the government in my eyes to watch and take care of this.

In Sharjah they have complete shops who only sell used tires, just the tire & no other services, they have huge stocks for all cars & vans & been operating for years..

I guess it is ok in Sharjah then! But what's the point in other emirates enforcing such law when sharjah can sell it to any motorist of any emirate?

The risk will be there for any emirate unless such rule is enforced on a federal scope!

I agree with you Malte, those risks are high & can cause disasters on roads ..

guys ... just don't talk about enforcing vehicle modification and tire laws on federal scope ... usually only the most restrictive interpretation gets enforced
