Anyone of you have experienced this with a TJ before. I know that the original plastic crap on the JK breaks every now and then but today I was not able to disengage my 4WD after the trip. No resistance at all in the lever. Crawled underneath and found that the linkarm had popped out. There was no way I could push the linkarms that far aside so it popped back in again so I manually disengaged the 4WD so I at least could drive home again.
Will try and see if WM can make an emergency repair tomorrow morning as I promised to help some friends on their private trip tomorrow afternoon.
If you had this experience - please give some input as I need to have it fixed.

Re: 4WD-shifter popped out
If nothing is missing or broken... it is probably ONLY the adjustment nut on the linkage rods (yes rods ... all mechanical)
The nut might just need tightening OR it is missing!
The TC shifter linkage is fixed on one side to the TC and to the other to the body(!! bad)
never mind ... for WM it is a EASY FIX!

Re: 4WD-shifter popped out - solved & lessons learned
OK problem solved. The issue was that the transmission mount was broken so the whole package sort of moved sideways and since the connection of the linkarm is fixed to the chassi the tap linked to the transmission moved and jumped out of the bracket.
Thanks to Western Motors this was fixed early Saturday morning so I was ready well in time to hit the sand again by 1.30
Lessons learned is that in order to get the tap back in place you should not try to move the linkarms with force but place the force to the reinforced part of the driveshaft and as gently as possible move the whole transmission in order for the tap to be put back in place.
BUT this tap popping out from its bracket will not happen unless the transmission mount is broken and that means don´t drive offroad I guess.

You are correct (as usual I would say)SSS wrote: The TC shifter linkage is fixed on one side to the TC and to the other to the body(!! bad)

The TC was able to move due to the broken transmission mount and the bracket who is fixed to the body was still "fixed"

Stick shifter popped out
What happened with me is funnier, the stick shift came out all from the gearbox
Went to WM asking for repair !! they told me you have to replace it all ( 450dhs)
Had a look at it !! cleaned it and glue it with super glue (2 dhs) and since then never been out .
almost 3 years
