I use my iPhone when I'm in the UAE for navigation...

No I'm serious!! I drop a pin on my Maps app, and I follow the roads. It's pretty good for the UAE, but it doesn't have directions. You need to actually know how to read maps and street directions to get to where you want to go. And I have GPS points on the Compass app... As long as there's cell reception, my phone works fine.

This is good for onroad driving and navigation, we are talking about offroad Fizz, no roads in the desert

@fizz dry motionX GPS . This App has offline topo Maps, waypoints, Track Recording, GPx file Import / Export, Navigate to coordinates, waypoints and so on. It pretty much has nearly everything a garmin has except for Street Routing and poi needs to Be imported. Other than that : really worth a Look.
And : you can have it on the iPad As well ;) if you like bigger displays.
Only negative : the iPhone is Not very Heat resistent and actually it's not possible to Upload custom maps ( As for satellite Maps i.e. For offline usage... )

Pfft. Real men use a compass and the sun. =P

Iguana: Do you guys go to places without any cell coverage? Curious. I'm thinking of getting a spare phone, not a smart phone, with long battery life and strong cell reception+Wasel account for Oman trips.
