Hi guys (and girls),

As a complete new comer I ask myself if anyone of you has experience with navigation apps on the iPhone.
If I search the web I find a lot about detailed navigation on water but not so much on land!

Or wood it be better just to buy a decent Garmin device?

Any good advise?

Bandit

Hi Ossme,

Both, but particularly off road.
I figured if the iPhone can do this, then I don't need to buy a GPS....

I used MotionX at the beginning of my ad4x4 time ... very cool app.

Later I bought a garmin, bc my iPhone HARDWARE was not up to the HOT tasks in a TJ ... shutting down due to too high temps

The Garmin oregon 300 was a cheap (for sure cheaper than frying my iPhone) and good catch!

Today I would go for a Montana 600 ;)

I second that.

In the cool weather I am very much satisfied with the large screen of iPad (Motionx HD) with downloaded maps when there is no 3G signal.

thanks for the advise guys!
I will try the app and then most probably find out the hard way what SSS experienced before.

So start the savings for the Montana ;-)

Does it work when there is no 3G coverage?

I am using IGO app & it's working fine with me even when there is no 3G, it also have off road mood.

Yes, you have the option to download sections of the maps from there server to access them offline. FYI, the HD version for the Ipad has more cool features.

Thanks Hani, I think I have to use it more often to know the features & be familiar with it.
