*1999 Mitsubishi Pajero 3.0 LWB (good fun, a bit underpowered)
*1993 Suzuki Vitara SWB soft top, big-*** tyres and headers, excellent fun!!!
*1992 Nissan Patrol LWB (first time to get airborn, the Jawal phone didnt survive though....young and stupid!!!)
*1980 Toyota landcruiser (Cabsula), 4WD was damaged, ran well in 2WD, intense fun.

Mitsubishi Pajero 3.5L. Solid but lacks the power to get to the top of the big ones.
Suzuki Vitara. Light, great on the dunes but not solid enough for hard desert.
Nissan Pathfinder. Good all rounder, a bit too small for a camping trip with adults but a bit too big for a nimble fly around the dunes.
Toyota Prado V6 4.0L. Excellent power to weight and size. However the plastic bumpers stick out a long way from the wheels giving it relatively poor entry and exit angles from the dunes. I have damaged both front and rear bumpers. Can anyone tell me how to come to the bottom of a dune without putting the nose into the ground? If I can, I create a fillet of sand to lift the nose but with the front bumper protruding so far it's hard to build a fillet large enough. Is it possible to slide the car sideways near the bottom of the dune and if so how? Any advice gratefully received. I'm on the look out for a short wheel base car - maybe a Prado.

Simple just be very slow at the end to clear the nose then let slid down to clear the tail after that step on the accelerator to move away, I hope that help a little

what do I need to look out for? and how many K's are too many?

I would like a manual - but with limited choices will an auto preform on par, I would like to devgelop my skills in the sand/ dunes to a level to do trips in Lewi etc.
Your thoughts / view are appreciated, prior to me purchasing.
