Great thought Jo, but I was at a meeting the other night about the history of the UAE and Theigers route in the Empty Quarter was discussed at length.

The guy clearly stated that to venture anywhere near the Saudi border now is a big NO NO and you will be escorted away from the area or arrested or shot!!

If you can stay away from there great idea, in fact awesome.

Great Idea Jo
Few thing need to be addressed prior tp the event. As you all know it is a very and lenghty route may be we need to divide it into sections and them do one by one. Secondly, we need medical and fuel arrangements. Thirdly we need authority approvals.

As we are now well known with Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority it would be a good Idea to include them ( We need to sell the idea to them in terms of promoting Abu Dhabi ects ......in those lines)

Fourthly, I have no idea of recently that some one had follow the route and It would be of a great adventure for us to do it. Big for the club.

Lastly but not least : Requires a lot of dedicated and well organisation which I will be gladly to participate.

Hi Guys,
Image
grat response! Well, I am hunting currently for more detailed route information. To make it a bit more shiny, I would appreciate if the commitee could grant an AD4x4 mail address for me.
Additionally I need to know if some on has good relations/contacts to the following organisations:

- AD or Emirates Heritage Club
- Heritage Club Oman
- something like this in Saudi
- UAE Armed Forces
- Oman Armed Forces
- Saudi Armed Forces
- Any print media (Gulf News etc...)
- Radio & TV Stations

I share Mpenzies idea of splitting it in sections where the main leg (empty quater crossing) should be promoted as a highlight. Best would be, we find a special anniversary (ex. start or arrival in UAE on National day).

Brothers and Sisters, I need INPUT!

Keep you posted,

Antrax I like your idea and support.
This is what i think if you can do please will help to sectionalized the route.

There is a small portion route in the U.A.E and longer route is actually in Oman and Mostly Oman Interior(Dahlia) so we might not require passes or may be special permission for protected area.

We can avoid the Saudi part untill we have clear guidance and support we nee. So let us concentrate on the U.A.E and Oman first.
Waht do think

Hi jc,

.. well, there are a few issues where we need support from the armed forces (this is valid for all three countries):

1. we may pass restricted areas where without there approval we will not be allowed in
2. we may cross borders and need permission/visa/medical certifications
3. it will be a tremendous logistical challange especially for the empty quarter part what without a professional logistical support is not manageable
4. we must have a medical fall back and support network in place as safety net in case of major accidents. Also in this therefore only an organisation out of the armed forces can help (helicopters, ambulances, hospitals)
