Up for the Pajero fun... after several short and long overlanding weekends, I’ve decided to take the plunge and get into more 4x4 stuff... just passed my ANIT here, drive with another group as well as riding off-road on the bikes. Back in the UK where I come from the Pajero (Shogun) is an expensive and respected capable traditional 4x4, keen to uphold its name here....
My car is 2011 SWB 3.8L, stock apart from 2” TJM lift kit and switching to 16” rims and 265x70x16” Geolandar AT-S rubber... more to come. Had it 5yrs now.
Stock its a cable car, it’ll do most of what it’ll ever be asked off, has low ratio 4WD, mine has rear diff lock... lift it, put some AT rubber on it, it’ll do well... pull the AB relay to disable the TC when turned off... better than any mod from the off. 3.8L is powerful motor. It’s nice to drive, agile/nimble. Solid/reliable. SWB looks like a Tonka Toy.
Independent suspension splits opinion... just remember the Y62 has it and people swear by them...
Against... auto box 1st gear is nice and long, useful overrev but sometimes too long to 2nd on climbs... could be doing with being shorter. Manual is better but a conversion job. Bumper is built for Mpg, not dunes... went as a L2 on a mixed drive (turned out to be L4+ as I was the only L2 (Improver)) there, near ripped it off going up a steep compound short slip face into side crest (berm) following a 4” lifted FJ - admit its too deep, get it trimmed and fit a bash plate. AC isn’t great...

Dash/interior is a bit rattley.
175k, goes into the desert in 40-50 deg heat, never misbehaves, goes to work, tows between 250-600kg with ease; bike to trackdays at speed, 600kg into the trails around the E75 side of Sweihan to unload the bikes closer to the main loops. Good do it all car. Didn’t become a household name in rallying getting slagged off by people who cant drive jeeps....
