Recovery Risks

Post by Jo »

Hi all,

you have for sure heard a lot about breaking Shakles, towing points and straps. On last Fridays trip we had a towing point resigning and a strap. With a lot of luck, there was only low damage:

So please for all "rubbernecks" , stay clear of the recovery area :!: :!:

Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.

Also make sure the TOWING LUG in excellent condition, beside the recovery gear tip top condition,
as WildFire say stay away from the LR's just kidden, what above goes for all cars

And even worse is broken steel wires (winches?)! From my Navy time I have seen steel wires break and when they do they can cut a person in half so beware.

Agreed. Only Kidding, on a serious note this damage was caused when a strap snapped (there was no shackle involved).
For your own safety, if you are not required in the recovery, please stand well away.

Good Advice Jo - and thanks God no one was injured.
  • Everybody who is not involved in the recovery should be standing a good 15-20 metres away.

The ONLY people required to be in the immediate area are the drivers - with the recovery team also well back and directing the recovery via the radio to the drivers.
Remember we go out to the desert to have safe fun and return home safe and sound.

Tow bars and shackels can become flying missiles

The driver in the pics below was lucky. Only his wind screen & dignity were damaged
