Why convoy positions and spacing should be respected

We are all going out to the desert to have 'safe' fun. In order to make sure that our fun will turn out to be safe this and other off-road clubs have come out with rules and regulations and made them mandatory to be followed by their club members. New members might find these rules silly sometimes, especially if these members have been offroading for while and consider themselves advanced. Rules have never been set to put constrains on members or to limit their ability of movements. Rules are for everyone's safety and content.

The reason I'm saying this is that I used to be one of these guys who thought that rules really suck, and that put me away from off-road and 4x4 clubs for few years. Look at this video on YouTube. If that group respected the convoy positions and spacing, the crash that happened towards the end of the video could have been avoided.

Good morning all and have safe fun out their.

Thanks autoscriptor this good thing so all know what we talk & keep reminding in each trip Briefing, also for the guys playing around while the convoy stopped for rest or recovery

Keeping your distance and no-overtaking/playing in the convoy are essential, as Bulldozer says our trip leaders will always remind everyone in the convoy at the briefing before any trip so that we all enter and leave the desert safe and sound

It was there before - I saw it, but yes - it has been removed by the user.

It showed a well disciplined convoy going through some dunes in Dubai - until they reached a stop point where 2 cars went a different way around a dune to meet the parked cars. One went over and around the dune, the other car stayed on the other side and they met at the end of the dune with a fender bender to the bumpers.
This happened because each car could not see the other car approaching from the same direction on the other side of the dune.

It highlighted the need to stay in convoy - even at the the end of a section when the cars in front are parking up for a break or regroup of the convoy.

Hope this helps

Removed by user; too bad. Basically, there were a group of 4x4 cars heading to what it seemed like a gathering location somewhere in Dubai/Sharjah desert. They were approaching in no particular order or sequence. Two of the cars took different routes around one dune. One was taking the slop side and one was taking the crest side of the same dune. As they couldn't see each other, they crashed directly after the dune. If they were approaching the gathering location in a convoy sequence the crash could have been avoided.

Anyway, it was too late to get the video out of the broswer's cache as it was deleted once the browser's session expired.

[jax, didn't see your post before sending mine]
