I think this system is in force in Abu Dhabi from a while back. Last year when I was at Muroor renewing the regestration on my Golf they didn't do any checks on it.

When asked they said it si not necessary for cars upto three years old.

Ahmed, Correct.
on the other hand, Abu Dhabi registration is far much strict on the control of the car. Modifications are not welcome, and if you meet with an inspector in a bad mood, he can just ask you to present a stock car (as per the law...).
So in AD, you must be prepared to return your car to the original for the inspection (after the 3rd year).

A TURBO (engine mods with all the colors) but should be not noisy and not over 6 in co2, standard engine should be 4.5 and below :cheers:

I have heard that ther is a company / workshop that offers a Turbo installation on Landcruisers / Patrols somewhere in Abu Dhabi.

Any idea who they are and how does one contact them.

The registration guys are just doing their job - Al Ain guys are great: but no turbos or super-chargers unless stock and it must pass the basic tests.

I am sure about this because i have http://www.bspturbo.com/nisan.htm kit and passed the test in AD two times and know it is turbocharged and they say as long as the kit fixed properly and sounds cool NO PROBLEMO

You can approach the garages who fix turbos in AD and they will guarantee your car test pass

But still a police patrol can stop you give you a gift "modified engine" fine

Wow - that's cool, and news to me.

So if it's installed by certain garages, it passes inspection... that's awesome. The AA inspection guys were very clear that they would pass racing air filters, headers, high-power ignitions, etc., but not turbo or super-chargers.

I suppose the "fixed properly" is the key, and these garages have status of dealers, and they issue a letter requesting Muroor approval, and they get it! 8)
