To clarify :

We are using radios on site, so we know about the law.
ANY KIND OF RADIO WITHOUT LICENCE IS ILLEGAL!

to get one, you should go to the police and ask for registration. this is a long process and expensive. You will have to get a licence for a very precise frequency (basicaly, one channel only), plus a registration for each radio to be renewed yearly... Then you are ok.

None of the motorola radio we use can receive Police frequency. This is only possible with scanners, which are very hard to find around, and totally illegal (no licence available).

Now, on the field, there is a tolerance about "family" radios as we use, especially if you can justify their use. But be aware that you MUST NOT use your radios close to any military fields, base, compounds, airfields.

As for custom, i was checked when i came back in UAE in DXB airport for aving two small radios. They made me open my bag (huge bag) to find the tiny radios. I went to see the colonel of custom to explain why i had radios (desert trip purpose). The guy was nice after checking them (no scanner) and explained me about the laws and tolerances... All with a smile and a coffee.

So just be wise, use radios for what they are dedicated to, i.e. safety tools.

As for dragon mart, what you can find in the shops is only the immerged part of the iceberg. if you want to buy radios there, make sure they are compatible as there is 2 standards for family frequences...

I got three Motorola Radios from Canada,

1st one through Abu Dhabi airport.. went fine no custom or anything...
2nd one through Dubai Airport.. was taken without even listening to what I was saying ... and there was no colonel or even any rank...
3rd through Abu Dhabi, same like the 1st one, went through with no problem ... I didn't even hide it or unpack it....

so guys my advice to you try to get Motorola ( 8500 = 32km, 9500= 42km ) through Abu Dhabi airport or save yourself time and risk and get it from the boss where you will have a life time warranty
!!!! :D :D

Musnet,

You can get it from Iguana. Just PM him.

Dont buy them from outside as it may not work with the club members type.
