Hi PR,

I agree fully, before in the Netherlands I did everything on my cars myself, but now I have a small problem which I can not solve myself, every now and then the warninglights of ABS, TC and Hill Descent Control shows up, I think it is a sensor problem.

I have the full LR manual from the internet, very handy indeed

Hi Rene,

welcome to the Landrover desease club

This is a known malfunction. It is due to an issue in the ABS/EMC module. There is hardly anything you can do except getting it replaced by Landrover (approx 15k AED) or getting a used one from the UK market, install it and let Landrover program the settings (approx 3k for the modul plus shipping and 2k for programming but you need to check with them first).

It is a real p-i-t-a decission. Since it does not effect very much the driving performance and, strangely, it happens mostly on the road but rarely in the sand, I decided to live with it....

Good luck

Jo

Hi Jo,

Thanks for the reply. hmmm, quite expensive, then better let it as it is.

Do you know some good LR specialists around Abu Dhabi?

Cheers,

Rene

... well, there is the "old" Landrover agent Al Otaiba (comming from AUH , crossing Maqta bridge, turn right, turn right and after 250m to the left). Not perfect but the best for Discoveries I found in AUH. If you want to go to Dubai, there is AAA behind the Gold-Suq (directly after Mall of the Emirates). They are good, helpful and have reasonable prices...

Not a workshop (at least not in Al Ain) but I get LR parts from Gulf Stars Autos Spares Parts: http://www.gulfstarsauto.com

(flashy site, says nothing other than they sell LR parts, useful only for contact info; for example: Our goal is to Make the company capable to meet the requirement of this and next centuries and our mission is to bla bla..... and: WE GUARANTEED CUSTOMER SATISFACTION TOTALLY DEDICATED TO LAND ROVER QUALITY AVAILABILITY SERVICE.)

Jo,

I found something on the internet regarding the problem with ABS/TC/HDC, it's worth trying:

Atleast it is not costing anything

wow, that simple?

The best way of avoiding the 3 amigos is to use the HDC every once in a while so that the valves get "exercised".
Find a steep driveway somewhere and put the vehicle into low range and 1st gear, and turn on HDC so that it activates the ABS modulator and gets it "working".
Most vehicles suffer from the shuttle valve jamming on the ABS modulator simply from lack of use.

It sounds not bad. Will try it.... but do not expect any miracles....

Well, there is some truth to that, but you'd have to be lucky as well

When I got Elsie, the previous owner had never taken her off-road, or rarely did so. He also had no sons of driving age  got to check these things before buying a car! LOL

Anyways, diff locks were not engaging, but I believed that he had never had use for them, and the Internet said they "needed exercising", so I went ahead with the purchase.

I took them apart and they were gummed up with what looked like dry grease. Gave them a good clean with kerosene, put them back together, and enjoyed perfect operation. 8)

So, it could well be the same for the Hill Descent...

Hey guys,

Quite interesting, we went to Carrefour near by Maqta bridge and I went down to the basement parking, I put the car in low gear in the 1st gear and put the HDC on, after that I let the car go, first it sounds like if there was a valve shuttering for maybe 2 seconds, after that she went down very smooth and no strange sounds.
For now the 3 amigo's did not show up anymore, I tried the ABS on gravel, and it is working. Looks promising, I will keep you updated.

PR, same with my car, the only steep slopes she saw were the humps in the road :D , the previous owner had an older LR Disco for going off-road, soooo, lets hope for the best.
