ARB will not have stock of the larger shackles until at least the beginning of November.

Yo,

I liked the post of diver where he posted a pic, I think it will be great to have a pics of all the stuff that we should have.
PS: some of the terms that we are using are really technical terms so it will be easier for beginner like me :P

Hi Mastarux!

If you are unsure of any of the items send any of the members a pm and they will gladly meet up with you to show you what you need - most of us carry it in the car all the time (except for the first aid kit)and to give you an idea.

For the motorola radios, fire extinguishers get in touch with Iguana - he's the man to see for these, he also has rear tyre covers, car stickers, hats, t-shirts and flags with the club logo on. How he fits all these in his Wrangler beats me!

Hope this helps, I know when I started in the club I had nothing! Iguana helped me get most of my stuff and where to get it from - we all help each other in AD4x4 Image

Good luck,
Jax

I agree, and a must for all to have. It comes in a very nice bag and good value.

Equipment

Post by Bluefin »

Hi, need a bit of help? 8O

Have booked my first trip(Arnit) for Sat the 8th and need to get the necessary euipment:

1.What length of tow rope/strap do you recommend for the Cherokee?
2. What rating must the airpump be?
3. How do you rate the shackles,( what does a Cherokee weight and by how much must I exceed the weight of the Jeep, to ensure the shackles are strong enough?)
4. Where do you get the deflators and how do you set them?
5. What type of tyre pressure gauge, do you guys recommend? Digital or Dial?

Any specific brands, I must look at?

Thanks guys

Hi Bluefin and welcome to AD4x4!

The purpose of the A(bsolut) N(ewbie) I(nstruction) T(rip) is to show you what equipment you need and introduce you to desert driving. Usually you dont need to bring any gear. Just make sure your car is in good condition and has proper recovery points front and back (where the snatch strap can attach if you need to be pulled out of a jam...) The trip 'marshal' and 'recovery officer' will bring all the necessary equipment.

The best advice i can give you is to wait on spending big $$$ on equipment until you see for yourself what the more experienced AD4x4 members use... I'm sure everybody will be more than happy to give you advice on brands, quality equipment and where to get them during the ANIT trip!! So don't be shy to ask...

Most of the stuff you mentioned can be found at ACE hardware (in Meena Zayed) or ARB (in Musaffa)... they have good quality products, though sometimes they run out of stock.

Have fun!!!

Heinz said it all, no need to buy anything for the first trips !

ad 1) Either ARB 8000kg or Bushranger from ACE (we prefer the 1st one)
ad 2) Most use the Bushranger Air Max from ACE in Mina, the higher the faster
ad 3) rated Shakles are available from ARB and ACE, buy two of the big ones
ad 4) for deflators there are many options, check out the hint from TOM and ARB, choose the type you can work with
ad 5) I prefer the Digital ones, check brands for less, ACE HW

To, Mike and Heinz;
Thanks for the advice :D
Just a bit of a "preperation freak" (never went to sea unprepared)
Rather safe than sorry
Thanks again

More items for the list:

Post by Tom »

In addition to the list already proposed ...

1. Definitely bring lots of extra drinking water. Even on a day-trip 10 liters per person is not too much. You would be amazed at how much you drink when digging sand. If you are not peeing every hour you are probably not drinking enough water.
2. A hat. The sun and a bare head are a bad combination. Sunscreen too if you have light skin.
3. A roll of Duct Tape. This stuff has a light side, a dark side, and is the force that holds the universe together. It has uncountable uses.
4. A small roll of galvanized wire. Great for making temporary repairs.
5. A spare fan-belt for your engine. Some engines use a single serpentine belt, others use multiple belts. Bring a complete set. Hopefully someone in your group will have the tools and knowledge of how to change them.
6. The phone number of your off-road recovery service and a good book to read while you wait for them.

Also bring a positive attitude and a good sense of humor.
