Need to modify my wrangler JK

Post by Idris Khan »

Hello guys, I just recently bought a 2011 wrangler JK Sport 'm/t and as we all know it needs some mods to look decent on the road and improve performance. I am quite used to modifying muscle cars and currently own a camaro SS too but off roading is somewhat new to me and so are the jeeps. Therefore, your suggestions will be highly appreciated.

I am thinking of
Wheels and tyres (seen a few online And quite like these http://www.jeep4x4center.com/jeep-wheel ... s-8179.htm
Lift kit - no idea about it but I guess 2 1/2" should be enough
Shock absorbers - again no idea which ones to go with
k&N cold air intake

Perhaps will change the fenders and bumpers later during the year but the above mentioned ones are on the list to do now so please suggest your ideas where to get them from, where to install etc. local dealers seem quite expensive as I mostly import my stuff from US and it turns out quite cheap compared to he prices quoted by some of the garages here.

Thanks a lot

If you are interested to drive it in the desert, and this is the reason for modifying, then the best advice to be given is to start drive it as is, see how it goes on the sand, and what do you NEED to mod, see how other cars modded and the advantages and disadvantages of each mod.

This approach will save you spending on some mods, or brands that you will regret later on, so, do your research in practice to get the best results.

welcome to the club! :D

the link you provided is showing a wheel which will NOT fit a wrangler JK :?
wrong lug pattern!
that wheel is for a wrangler YJ/TJ up to 2006 ...

just an example ...

and as desert hawk is saying ... join some trips first ... you will not get a "standard recipe" for modifying your JK here ... so many ways to go ... some of them "great" and some "crap" ... and some just esthetic and just a matter of taste.

we have Marshals in the club who started with stock JKs and did all trips without mods and became marshals.
and we have other members and marshals who modified their JKs to "monsters"

in short ... with a wrangler you do NOT NEED to modify anything ... it is a great desert toy as is already.
but you can if you like to ... just don't waste you money on junk!

maybe you need to ask :
"what mods to avoid for sure because junk/dangerous/not suitable for the desert?"

Thats great advice guys and I am certainly not going to junk up my car with unnecessary mods... I think you are right, lets get some trips out of the way and then perhaps get the mods rolling..
Sorry dune rider, cant buy your tires without proper wheels so will have to let that go this time around. thanks for the offer anyway and good luck with the sale.

Out of curiosity, when is the next trip coming up for newbies? I have never done off-roading so big dune bashing will be out of the question for since I wanna learn first and then get into proper off-roading... do you guys also help out the newbies on some off-roading skills?

Idries, what u r looking for is an ANIT (absolute newbie instruction trip) where u will receive a detailed explanation about basic skills, safety standards and other related issues that will help you stay safe and enjoy this hobby in the same time.

Nothing announced this week, but stay tuned, we will try to arrange one for the new comers soon.

Thanks Mo. I do consider myself quite a good driver with some skills on the track but off-roading is new to me so ANIT would be perfect.

I am so tempted to improve the look of the car by modifying the wheels and tires with a lift kit but I am gonna have to kill this urge until I do some off-roading myself. Hopefully soon.

Agree with DH, do a few trips and learn about the car, you may be surprised what it can do stock. We have a marshal who has a stock JK manual so it can't be too bad. I drive a jk 2008 tornado. They are good cars and sure there will be something trip wise. Keep yours eyes on the forums early in the week as this is when a lot of the trips start being announced.

See you in the sand soon.

I agree to all the above. I did the same. Now my jeep is moded to best match the way i drive it. during my long three year journey of modifications i wasted allot of money, parts and time because i was in a hurry.

Give me a call if you want to have a chat about modding your car in the future.

That's against my natural instincts so keeping it stock is out of the question :)

Hani, will give you a call later this week as I am in doha until Tuesday.

Yeah I get it! :)
How do I view ones car on profile? Is there anyway you could check the mods and pics on each profile (of course for people who have updated it) it could be perfect for me to search and get an idea of the most usual mods.
