Newbie Equipment & Jeep parts/ Help

Post by Miggo_777 »

Hi I've done my first trip (great!).. Where can I go buy the following in Abu Dhabi (is Ace and Western motors my only option?):

Beginner stuff:
Tyre pressure gauge/ deflators
Air Compressor
Base Plate
Tow rope
Shackles
Shovel

I'm also looking for JK unlimited Jeep parts (any helpful info please):
4 door pocket Style Bushwacker Fenders (is it difficult to intstall by myself.. )
Wheel Spacer - about 1 inch ( for standard tyre/ rims)
Front bumper ( any recomendations?)
Soft lightweight top/ cover
I'm also wanting to buy a small pully (or something to hoist of my hard top by my-self) & a stand for the hard top.

Thanks

Congrats on the 1st trip :D

Tyre pressure gauge/ deflators : ARB Mussafah / AEV Dubai
Air Compressor : ACE Bushranger or ARB Mussafah
Base Plate : IKEA, take 3 chopping boards together
Tow rope : ARB Mussafah
Shackles : ACE or ARB, rated 2 x big + 1 small
Shovel : Carrefour or Hypermarket

Fender flares either WM or AEV
Spacers : AEV
Front Bumper also either WM or AEV

Top/Cover, check with Hani if the Quadratec order is still open, otherwise AEV again

A good place to buy parts is also ICON in dubai, you can check the parts they have on their website, I personally sometimes find things in their shop (or by calling them) that I couldnt find on their website.

When you buy your strap take the one with the less kg. I think its 7 or 8 tons.
The ARB guys want to sell you strap with more tons than you need. We dont recover trucks (11 tons or above).

I just baught a 4 Ton strap, is this sufficient for our purpose? ICON was also trying to sell me a huge strap, I asked if the 4 ton one would break when pulling a car from a stuck situation. He said it will probably not break but I would still need the big one if I need to pull the other car right. lol.

there was a huge price difference so i baught the 4 ton one and said i will try it. Has anyone experienced a 4 ton strap break?

I have experienced the 11 ton straps failing last time when pulling the Landcruiser of Uristier  My friend, 4 tons may sound high, but trust us, it is not

The cheapest 8 ton to get is the one from Bushranger that is sold by ACE, they used to have it separate but lately I have seen it only in the snatch kit starter box, which contains also 2 rates shakles, gloves and another towing rope for street use. ACE is selling only the small one, looks like this : http://www.bushranger.com.au/snatch_kit.php

Otherwise its only the ARB 8 ton which we recommend, for severe conditions and heavy cars, the Marshals carry bigger ones also and the Members having such bigger cars like LC, Patrol LWB, GMC Tahoe, Tundra, Armada or all this heavy rigs are also advised to go for the bigger one > than 8 ton.

BTW, ARB only sells it in 8, 11 and 15 ton, we use at least 8 http://www.arb.com.au/products/arb-reco ... nt/straps/

Khoory, please read : http://www.ad4x4.com/club/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7125

also, download the ANIT booklet, a lot of the answer there : http://www.ad4x4.com/club/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3645

what you have is a tow rope, to pull a car on the road. What we use is kinetic recovery strap, to get vehicule out of stuck. IT IS STRICLY FORBIDDEN TO USE TOW ROPE to get a car out of stuck.
