To My “Desert family”


After much thought on how to say my good-byes to you all, and after coming full circle in thinking I would just disappear and hopefully reappear next year sometime, to now thinking i can not just go and not say at least a BIG THANK YOU …


Thank you to all the Marshalls, for their time, their patience, their experience in teaching me, and us all, the wonderful world of 4x4’ing in the beautiful UAE.

Special thanks to Urs, the man who always made me feel safe and taught me almost everything I know in the 4x4 world.

Special thanks to Viking, again, for adding to the teachings of Urs and for all the support in building up my confidence in duneing and GPS reading, navigating and Leading. I have learnt so much from you, yes,…. I can say My Favourite Marshall….. thank u

Magamoe, thank you for all your help from the start, when I had absolutely no idea on where to start with the modifications to my Jeep. You were a great help, and I remember your words…. You start with small mod’s and soon you are upgrading and it never stops…how true!

JC…. Black Sheep Squadron Man…… i still can not drive like you and that’s not for a lack of trying….. It’s been good riding with you and I only wish we could have got out more together. When I think of you, I think of Liwa!

Omar, wow, very sad saying goodbye to you too. We started off together, look at you now… rally driver!. When I think of you, sorry, I still think of you and your silver Jeep and Liwa….. with Saeed ( off road)..also very nice friend and your wonderful wife and little son…

Mood, my other son….. well, again, I will miss you heaps. You have always been there looking out for me and the Nessiemobile. When I think of you, I think of ice cold towls , ice cold water fan, hot deserts, red wrangler…which I believe you don’t have anymore, and your contagious smile. Thanks too, for your help in getting the hard top for my jeep sorted. …and little Mood…copy paste man!!!.. Your son looks so much like you!

Mac, yes, the Oman trip and the rock climbing in the FJ… wow, seems like so long ago. A great adventure, wish we had time to do more.

To all the other family members, that I have not quite had enough time to get to know, friends like, Off Road, Lionbar, Andy, Yehya, Mike, Wasibi, Jax, Maddog, Lars, XOF, Braveheart to name but a few…..

I will miss you all, and I will miss the beautiful deserts of the UAE.

Dear Nessie,
Sad to read you are leaving. Hopefully it seems temporary. So, we'll pray for your come back.
I remember a trip with Mac (it was my first actually) where you discovered your Jeep NEEDED more power and the mods bug started... I remember old time where you were frozen at the top of Liwa big dunes . But i'll keep the memories of what you accomplished, being a real offroader, able to drive in any conditions, anywhere, always with a smile.
Thanks for the few times we spent altogether.
I hope that nothing bad waits for you anywhere you have to go. and, ce n'est qu'un au revoir!

My dear sister Nessie
Yes this is truly a sad day for AD4x4 and especially for me as one of my best friends are leaving. It was really painful to say goodbye after our last trip and I was still hoping it wouldnt happen.
Now the day is sadly here but I still dont give up the hope that the both of you will be back soon again conquering the dunes with me.
For all the good memories we have had together, all the laughs, all the stucks it is not you who should "Thanks" - it is me
I wish you all the best in the future and may our roads meet again soon.
