was searching across the web for offloading tips and came across this site. I'm just a casual mild offroader and would like to venture into the desert. If there is a group gathering of some sort, or anyone planning to guide me along and provide useful tips, it would be highly appreciated.

You are in the right place, as a new member you have to attend an ANIT trip first where you will be introduced to off roading equipments, how to, do and don't, rules..., etc.
Try to register in this trip

And from there you can join more trips as new trips will be announced every week and increase your off road experience.
