Good news for offroaders - The Thoraya Satellite communication is now available at a very affordable price from Etisalat.

I already got the device which is allowing me to use my existing Etisalat Mobile number as a satellite phone when ever required.

The device cost is 1800 dirhams - a monthly fee of AED 150 dirhams is required and against which you will get 100 Minute of free satellite calls and 100 free SMSs.

The device is very handy and I would recommend all offroaders to get it as a very important safety device.

Last week in DesNav - One of our members got stuck on his way out of the camp area in Madinat Zayed (Western Region) where the mobile reception was very low. Fortunately; he had the Thoraya device with him. he connected his phone and called us asking for help. We managed to reach him on time and save him from being lost in the middle of the desrt.

After this incident; Being an offroader and a boat owner as well; I bought my self a device today - I think it is very useful and at an affordable price.

I also got a copy of the sales brochure and requested Etisalat sales team to make a user name to answer any technical inquiries regarding this device.
