+2016 Fortuner Transmission

Hello all,
I’m considering to buy a 2019 Toyota Fortuner for multipurpose (highway fuel efficiency & desert driving) reasons however They changed the transmission options in 2016 to auto drive or sport manual (iMT). I’m concerned about the iMT (sport shift/manual transmission) as it seems to shift on its own above a certain RPM. Any insight or solutions on this as I like to drive with the manual mode in the desert?
