I think you should just use it to coast down dunes. We could get two or three Jeeps to tow you up steep dunes, say the Moreeb Hill, and then let you coast down it. Kind of like a huge sandboard?

Seriously, this sucks and I hope you find a solution that doesnt make you wince too much.

Thanks Sam, this made me laugh     , no small feat today, cheers.....

OUCH!!!!

I had my 4l V8 on the LR killed and they asked 60k AED to fix it. At the end I got a "goodwill" from LR where they paid the new engine and I the consumeables. Was still 15k AED :(

I guess there might be a chance on some goodwill. Maybe Mac and Meamoe who are still running the Hummer Club in UAE (i still believe they do...) can help. I will ping them....

On the other hand, a big engine for 30k AED flat with 6 month warranty is tempting, right?

Well, with a 3.7L things are pretty easy, straightforward, and more cost effective than getting a replacement engine.

You can find some 2004-2005 5300 vortec engines for pretty cheap. I think that will be a drop-in conversion. The oil pan will need to be changed (or a lift kit to clear the axles) but that is about it. Your current computer might be able to run it. Otherwise, a vortec computer is not that expensive. You will need some custom wiring, exhaust, and intake work but that is pretty easy considering that it is a GM. You can also use the Alpha ones with little modification. You will be able to retain all H3 functions (example: ABS, traction control, Cruse control, Air Bag ... etc).
I'm "guesstimating" the swap cost will be less than AED20,000. :)

Try to contact Cobra workshop in Dubai. Those guys are the GM conversion experts. They do lots of 5.3 to 6.0 conversions. So they might also be able to provide you with a cheap 5.3 vortec engine. They are also experts in Custom GM wiring. So, They can give you a good advice about This v8 swap. :)

Good luck and keep us updated !! :D

i think i can provide a contact in Dubai
he recently got an H3 V8 second hand from the agency

he's not a (sand Guy) yet any way if you check the car out
to see the V8 performance before thinking of any swap
since i learned from him that its not that wow at low RPM
and accelerating from dead end

let me know

That is true. The v8 is better than the I5 but it is not like swapping a v8 into a wrangler. the H3 is 2.5 tons after all. A 6.0 vortec or an LS2 will give more power but it is also more expensive.

well, sorry to hear that, but then what model it is? if you service the car with liberty i still can have a word with them, as for the hummer club as Jo mentioned actually it doesn't exist anymore due to financial issues, and beside that neither me or mac have H3 anymore  putting that aside if i were u i wouldn't go for anything other than the alpha engine to be honest.

Hi Millhouse...as an absolute beginner, for our ANIT trips, you dont need any kit, except yourself and your ride. Hope to see you in the sand soon.

Not good news indeed!

My two fils ...

You will have to pay for the labor anyway, so if you have the cash you might as well go with the upgrade
You never really know how good a second hand 'accident' engine will be ... might end up costing you more in the longterm.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions,

Anyone had issues changing engine for a bigger one and getting rego card ammended? seems if it is a straight replacement just need to get new engine number, other than than, cant find anything about if its a bigger engine???

Any problems with insurance companies?

Anyone got past their next inspection if changing motor size?

Thanks..

Enjoy tomorrow in the sand.......

oh... thats not a good news!! so sorry to hear that Sean...

i wish i could help, but i can call myself a bit of a blond in these matters... but i will try and suggest something (might be something blond)!

if and only if the H2 engine can fit in your H3 hood... why dont you consider that!
the engine is pretty strong to be able to push the weight of the H2 very well, so it would be GREAT on the H3. might not be too expensive to get a second hand, giving that the prices of american cars in this country drop rapidly anyways... and you shouldnt face a lot of problems trying to get it working with your car...

this is if and only if it can fit!!!
