Hmmm, my guess is that it should be okay, apart from the cross section, the number of sharp 90deg bends has an impact too. However, probably more airflow restriction from a pre-filter than this snorkel. The cleaner cool air getting into the air box probably outweighs any potential loss from the different sectional area. Get that hole saw out!

if you reduce the diameter, you'll just increase the flow... don't worry...

on the other hand, you can buy pantyhose to put on the intake of the snorkel...

Agree, and you could put a sock over the snorkel inlet to keep the larger dirt particles out.

So I read that for a Jeep AW4 auto transmission the optimum fluid temp is 176F or 80c.

I was intrigued to find how hot the fluid get in the desert and so I fitted a temp guage in the outlet pipe to the coolers from the AW4.

To and from work it the gauge did not indicate above 50c. On the trip out to Sweihan this morning it climbed to 60c.

During my drive back along the very sandy gatch road (20km) it climbed to 150c (in fact that's peak gauge indication), but the fluid may have been hotter. Wow!!

That's with two big coolers out of newer Jeeps. I am going to add a further cooler and change the fluid out.

We are all careful about regular oil changes; but have you changed your transmission fluid?

Well I got up at 7am and changed the fluid before breakfast ( what do you mean that's no normal ).

I drained 3.8L (the sump capacity) and what came out was like dark brown HP sauce, except it did not smell as good.

The total capacity is 7.8L, so I will do three more changes over the coming weeks ans slowly dilute out the remaining 4L.

Well worth doing and I will do the transfer case soon too.

Anyway, just for good measure I added a third transmission cooler before lunch...
I then did an engine on test to ensure all connections were good - but a green fluid dripped on me - not the expect pink (thanks Dino!).

Further investigation revealed that my three month old thre row all metal Serk radiator was leaking.

So that radiator is now out and Franki is closed for business.......again.

Thanks IDO. That will be my next stop - but the radiator is three months into one year warranty - so I am hoping Serc will fix it.

They should replace it. A 3-month old radiator shouldn't be taking a pee.

i am not sure if they are the same serc that we used to deal with, if yes good luck (you will need it).

I have had Franki for several years now and I have always wondered why I have never seen the Check Engine Light on.
Someone has pinched it!!!!!!
