Hi Oliver,

Yes that would be a better solution. But I have no second sensors or bungs. If my simulator fails, I will install the sensors with spacers.

Thank you for reading my post and offering good ideas!!

Best

Dave

Update on 02 Simulator.

It works for regular journey. Now to wait and see if desert driving causes a DTC code.

Hi All,

I have re-installed my twin electric fan set up and it seems to be working quite well. More on that later.

Right now I am having the engine tuned. I have borrowed an Innovate wide band 02 data logger and have purchased a second hand SCT programmer.

The tuning is being done by a guy in the US (FlyinRyan). I send him a data log file from the LM-2 and he sends back an ECU file to send to the ECU via the SCT.

I will let you know how I get on.

OXYGEN SENSOR SIMULATOR WRITE UP

Hi Everyone,

Stock 2001 XJs have four oxygen sensors: two in the exhaust down pipes and two after the catalytic converters.

Frankenstein has no catalytic converters and the exhaust has no place to fit the second bank of sensors. Consequently my Check Engine Light is always on.

My options are two fit the sensors in a clever way to fool them the cats are there or build an electronic simulator. I opted for the second and this is the write up.

Here is the circuit diagram:
o2 sim.JPG
Features:
1/ Square wave 1 volt output at 0.146 Hz Duty Cycle 52% - This fools the ECU into thinking sensors are connected and CAT is working
2/ Heater resistors – this fools the ECU that the oxygen sensor heater circuit is OK.
Here is built unit ready to install. The big square items on the outside are the heater resistors. They get hot!

All from various internet sites, but here as a record for any future issues.

I will let you know if it works.

Ossme - thanks! And thank you for letting me borrow the LM2 for so long - I am finally using it. Dave

No problems. Just let me know when you are done .. :D

Without the O2 sensors the ECU won't tune itself to match your engine's requirements. It will just keep itself in an open loop.
