Project Rust Buggy !

Well, I have lots of parts that came out of Rust Bucket.

So, I'm planning build a buggy using all those parts. Something like this:

I'm going to build this at home, in my garage, using whatever parts I can find from the scrapyards. So, It is going to be a slow and painful process !

What is the plan ?

- get a rear-ended Jeep TJ or YJ.
- Remove the stock chassis and add tube chassis
- Use my old engine (possibly stroking it).
- Use my Current 33" tires.
- do something about the front and rear axles
- custom suspension setup.

But first thing is first, Since my garage space is fully occupied by Building material for my home. This is going to take another 6 months so I have all the time to plan this and get the parts I need!

cool idea!

but for sure it will become more expensive than you think

the axles and suspension (coil overs?, ORI struts?) will be a MAJOR expense !
(and will be more capable than your actual RB  )

for any one interested in extreme buggy ... uhhhm "juggy" stuff ... here is the ultimate collection :

So True !!

The axles will be most likely scrapyard work. HP dana 30 or even LP dana 30 on the front or a custom home-built dana 44 for the front. The rear will get either Ford 8.8 or even the dana 35 I have. The major thing will be the suspension since I can't fabricate this. But I might find something with reasonable expenses.

It's not going to be high or big as the one in the picture (unless I want it for rock crawling!). I will try to keep a LCG design as well.

I hope that I can use this when Rust Bucket is resting or having some modifications done to it..

No no no, No v8 in this one.... And difenatly no 54" tires .. :?

I will stick with jeeps 4.0l straight six and the 33" tires since I already have all of those parts. :)
I might stroke the engine since I already have a brand new shaft and other stuff ...

That's quite likely but if you make a plan around recycling as many good junkyard parts as possible, the cost needn't be outrageous and it'll be a lot of fun.

... and the fun factor of building something is what I'm looking for. :)

The Cobra needs less tools and less fabrication work. easier for the space and for the summer. :) It will be nice to drive one around town as well. 8-) I already build one, so a second one won't be as hard!

The Buggy's usage will be limited since I can't join AD4x4 trips. The sale value will also be limited since not many fancy this stuff. :?
On the plus side, It will be a good rock crawler & I might start a new sport in UAE; turning those type of buggies very popular in the future. It will need more fab work (more fun) and it will be cheaper overall as long as I don't go all crazy with it. :geek:
Oh, and who knows! Maybe I will build it in Desert fun Specifications ! But that might be expensive.. :?

well, I was thinking about making the buggy street legal. A friend from jeepforum.com developed the following picture for me. 8-)
