Thanks Dave. I've taken the Edd China hat off now and put the Mike Brewer hat back on. I'm putting the car up for sale this week but before I advertise it in Dubizzle, I'm going to phone the previous owner and give him the first option to buy it back (at a higher price of course).

Well, in the end that's what I've decided to do. I got fed up with people trying to bargain with me over the phone and making silly offers without even viewing the car (only three people actually took it for a test drive in a period of 5 months). Right now Ed's tearing his hair out wondering if his time and effort was wasted.
The car looks great, runs great, has insurance valid for another 8 months, and is surely worth a lot more than the 8000 AED that's been offered so far.
I've seen much worse cars sold for a higher price than that.

Yeah, If I only added the purchase price of the car plus parts as Mike does, I'd be at just over 10k AED and have a reasonable chance of breaking even. However I also have to factor in labour costs, vehicle inspection, registration (change of ownership), and insurance so I'm set to make a loss whatever happens.
Like you said, it's not as easy in the real world as Mike makes it look.
