Google Earth Blocked by Etisalat ( FIX)

Post by Mac »

Due to my vast IT knowledge and experience I have found a fix for Google Earth which has been blocked by our favourite company Etisalat.
Actually for those who know me you will know that the above IT knowledge is totally false!!! but this fix has been recommended my works IT wizard. Please read on,

If anyone uses Google Earth you may have found that since last week you get an error "unable to connect".

Etisalat have blocked the normal URL to the Google map servers. There is a work-around.

Open Internet Explorer

Click on the "Tools" tab, on the top row

Click on "Internet Options"

A new box opens

In the row of tabs on the top of the box, click on 'Connections" tab

Now click on LAN settings, towards the bottom.

A second box opens

Click the box next to "Automatic Configuration Script" and a tick appears. The script box next to it also becomes available. Copy and paste the following into this box:

http://proxy.emirates.net.ae/proxy.pac

Click "OK" and the box closes

Click "OK" in the Internet Options Box, and then close Internet Explorer.

You can now use Google Earth again via the Emirates.Net proxy which so far has not been affected.

I just wish that they finally will start realize how bad they are treating their "customers". If there was a decent competitor on the market, Etisalat would be out of business in 6 months and NO I dont consider DU as a competitor on an open market.

I hope you all realize that what I am paying for my 1 MB connection here in UAE is twice the cost of my 24 MB back in Sweden.

I'm more interested in why block GE. It must be an error because Google Maps works just fine http://maps.google.com/maps

or maybe its the silly comments/tags that some put on places that's an issue for someone.

I am trying to be unbiased here..... Regardless to the competition facts and the attitude of some counter staff etc etc....

Look again at the fix Mac has posted, Its Etisalat proxy and not a workaround or an external proxy overriding the borders/limitations set by the TRA.

I am not sure what is the reason behind this issue but it is obvious that it is a result of an upgrade on the UAE proxy level. You can always send an online complaint asking Etisalat to unblock genuine site like Google Earth etc.

Cheers

I wonder (out loud) if their online customer service is as responsive as the call number for the "Hotspot" service which has been disconnected every time I needed it?

Using this proxy server and Google Earth is working very nicely...

proxy: proxy1.emirates.net.ae
port: 8080

Hi Guys,

Actually UAE proxy is not managed by Etisalat anymore, it is managed by TRA, they set the rules and regulations, Etisalat only hosting the service.

It's really a shame how some wants to move forward and others are still pulling back , GE in some countries is part of the schools curriculum

Walid

STINKIN F#@*^$N COMPUTERS AND THEIR BULL$#*^* SETTINGS!!!!

I wanna throw the frikkin thing out the window, and hope it lands on the thought police that decided GE is 'nasty'

The world was a simpler place before silicon chips took over. Anyway rant over.

The fix isnt working for me, I've got too many options where to put proxy1.emirates.net.ae and 8080

HTTP Proxy
SSL Proxy
FTP Proxy
Gopher proxy
Socks Host
or
Automatic Proxy Config URL (entered the proxy from Mac in here, but that didnt work either?)

Tried them all but nothing. :dash1:
