FJ40 restoration project, guidance/advice needed please

Fellow offroaders,

I always dreamt of doing a restoration project for FJ40 and finally got my hands on a well kept beauty. I would like to request everyone with experience or knowledge in such projects.

Initially i would like to know pros and cons of setting up different engine/transmission (petrol or diesel, automatic or manual) and suspension conversion or keeping it stock.

Thank you for sharing the link and there are couple of my questions with answers already provided. Also the restoration looked great and similar to what i want to do.

Any chance this fj is still in UAE and if i can have a look at it please? Also if possible would like to discuss few more technical details if you dont mind.

Wasn't my project. A friend of mine did it, actually he did a few fj40's (plenty of stuff himself, and some at a shop in Sharjah). He moved it to the US when he relocated back there a few years ago. I have no details on what he did outside of that blogpost.
