Dual Battery Kit
WM did it as I had lots of wiring looms for lights and winch and they need to adjust couple of items to fit the tray in.

Re: Dual Battery Kit
Thanks for the photo.
I'm thinking of either going for a Optima yellow top replacement or dual battery (including the Optima).
How long have you had it now and have you noticed a difference when using the winch?
Did you also install the dual battery relay kit?

Dual Battery Kit
I didn't do the relay kit. Wiring is set so winch and now compressor are in the yellow top and car, lights etc are in original. Isolator is about aed1,000 to aed2,000 I hear.

Re: Dual Battery Kit
Mainly if you have a winch or serious lights, you can connect them direct to the second battery, whcih if operating with an isolator, you can switch on and off and not effect the main battery. further, if you suffer from a draining battery, having a secondary batthery means you can exit the desert without complications. EG a winch will typically drain battery 2x quicker than it can recharge.surfer wrote:what is the advantage of the dual battery setup?

Re: Dual Battery Kit
I know it has been a while since we spoke about this, but must just say, I LOVE my dual battery setup. I also got the relay kit. The normal setting is charge both main and aux battery, but run off main battery. Flick the swith over and power is from the auxhillary battery (Optima Yellow Top) only.
Winching so much easier with the aux battery, but the best of all is not having to get the jumper cables out when the battery fails.
We all know how abruptly and frequently car batteries fail in this climate. My experience in the past 5 years has generally been, you get a 12 month warranty on a new battery and they generally fail just outside the warranty and in the height of summer. Last year around August, the same thing happened, but this time, after the main battery was not able to crank the engine after a two week holiday, I immediately flicked the switch and started the engine from the aux battery. No need for jumper cables, no pushing the Jeep in the heat to do a running start or having to phone 800-BATTERY. The amazing thing was that the main battery came back to life after a 30min drive and lasted another 4 months. It possibly came back to life as it was not pushed below minimum voltage limit where it could no longer be recharged by the alternator. Then the same thing happened approximately 3 months later. The sequence of flicking the switch was repeated and I got another 3 months out of the battery until yesterday morning. It is still going, but now have to repeat every 4th or 5th startup. I got almost 7 months additional life out of the main battery this way where previously had to replace immediately and I am also no longer worried about making it to the battery centre for a swap out.
My view is this should be a standard Middle East spec on all cars.
