Suspension Advice for Prado 2015

I was looking in to some options for suspension upgrade. Advice's from you all will be very very helpful.

I got quotes from many and filtered off to three vendors considering the prices and reputation. Offers are :

1- Best line Garage - Icon stage 3 (front coil over + rear shock & spring + Custom Bump stop)
2- Arctic Trucks - BP51 (front coil over + rear shock)
3- Rage performance- Fox 2.5 factory series DSC adjuster (front coil over + rear shock & spring)

All three comes in the same price range (fox being highest). I am specifically inclined to BP51 because the reviews seems good, its from ARB, and Arctic trucks offers this.

I got stock tires of 265/65/R17, I plan to change it to 265/70/R17. my budget including tires is 15k. and i expect a lift of 2inch.

Hi after lift try to go for a wider tires if possible. 275 or 285 if supported.

Wider tires will require further mods like spacers/trimming. So i thought of just increasing the sidewall and it will gain more width when deflated.

Hi, I have the BP51 fitted by ARB themselves, the shop in Abu Dhabi did the fitting.

We adjusted after fitting as they were set to firm. The big advantage is that you can change compression and rebound after fitting and therefore set the ride comfort you want.

I had AEV dual sport on my Rubicon fitted by Ramy and I have used plenty of Old Man Emu on over 10 Land Rovers that I have had.

I am very happy with the BP51 and would only change if I was to fit Radflo which are easier to adjust.

Hi Andrew

I got the same info elsewhere regarding radflo vs Bp51. So far Bp51 is the choice since Radflo is out of budget.

Hi,
When i was upgrading my 2014 Prado i went for Old Man Emu from ARB.
This gived me 50mm lift, and I've installed 265/70/17 tires.
Those are the biggest tires you cn install, as bigher at the front will start hitting the car frame.
Unfortunately even this was sometimes hitting the body on max compression.
I was very disapponted with that, but what can you do.
On Australian forums you will read that they manage to install 275 but then you will rub the tire even on full turn.

Coming back to suspenssion. Doesn't matter what you will go for it will change your car behaviour. offroad suspension is very hard and ride comfort will drop drastically. You will be jumping on all speed bumps.

I was trying to tune my Prado to get the best of onroad and offroad, but that doesnt work. In the end Ive sold the Prado and got 2 cars. I got new JKU as offroad car. In the desert it drives way better than Prado.

No, but ive changed the rims. Stock has +6 offset, Ive got rims with -25, this moved each wheel by 31mm to outside.

Anyways I have done the mods now. Just got it from arctic trucks. EMU BP-51 at 2" lift, ~3cm spidertrax spacers. Stock tire. drove it from DXB to AUH and felt very good.

I will take it to the sands this week and see how it works out.

I have 2 inch lift with oldman emu ARB and 30 mm spacer.
new tire size 285x70xR17. I like big tire.

You had 265/70 before right? So to put this 285, did you get any trimming or cutting done?

Dear Rahman,

Can you plz advise on the below:
-What suspension have you got?
-How much did you lift ?
-Can you advice how is the On-road ride (comfortable /hard/ tiring on highways) ?
-Did you change the tires as well ?
-Have you added spacers ?
-Have you tested it Off-road ? What is the most difference that you have noticed (compared with stock)

I'm sorry for all these questions, it's just that I'm welling to get a lift kit my self for my 2012 LWB Prado that is not very hard and tiring on highways as I drive alot with family to Dubai and so on.

Really appreciate you sharing with us these info :)

I'm sorry that i missed to answer this question and i understand that you got the setup done already; however i will answer them for the sake of helping any fellow AD4x4ers in future for their pre-mods research:

-What suspension have you got?
I got BP-51 from old man Emu. It has compression and rebound adjusters.
-How much did you lift ?
I got 2 inch lift.

Its a joy to ride it On-road. It feels more firm and stable. Very comfortable. as mentioned its adjustable.
-Did you change the tires as well ?
No i did not change the tires yet. I planned to change later to 265/70/R17.
-Have you added spacers ?
Yes, spidertrax (hubcentric) gave 30mm offset.
-Have you tested it Off-road ? What is the most difference that you have noticed (compared with stock)
Done several offroad trips which includes 5 advanced drives so far. The first thing to notice is that your car will not fly due to rebound and so does not loose any traction. And obviously the lift have given nice clearances. I'm very happy with it.
