Land cruiser set up

Post by Zeebzog »

I have just bought a Land Cruiser 5.7l EXR. Whilst I will still mainly use the FJ for dune bashing it would be good to have a viable alternative - my FJ is currently needing new front bushings :(

What should I do to it (tires, lift etc)?

I don't want to change the driving style of the car too much.

Thanks!
Lee.

Firstly, mabrook!
I would seriously advise doing what I did with the F150 when I first bought it.
Get good comprehensive offroad insurance, leave it stock and discover what the car needs before you do it. You need your warranty for the next few months to cover you for any mechanical risks hiding beneath the bodywork.

The only caveat I do have is to consider a skid plate to protect the plastic bumper.
To keep it safe and immediately start enjoying the V8 power in the sand, start on some newbie and intermediate trips while you draw up the wish list. I will keep my eyes open to help with the search (the professional desert safari companies should be the first stop for advice).

Thanks Thom, good advice. Insurance already in place.
Rust proofing done.
Skid plate trying to find somewhere decent to do it...preferably in Abu Dhabi, if not it will have to be a trip to Dubai.

Congratulations Lee ,

Arctic Trucks in Dubai have done the modifications for al Futtaim on the Extreme models .
There may be a possibility of upgrading to the Fox suspension without voiding your Toyota warranty .
I would not recommend offroading without front and rear skids plate . Icon garage in Dubai are fairly professional with good workmanship .

Speak to Anup at Ramy 4x4 in Musaffah. If he can supply the parts, he will also personally supervise.

Thanks Iqsaan, out of interest does your front skid plate protect the bumper at all?

Congrats Lee on the new ride, last time I checked Al Futtaim mentioned that if you get the right setup from Arctic they can fix without voiding warranty but the new parts won't be under warranty from Al Futtaim. Worth the check though...
