lifting my rig(changing to stiffer springs)

Hi guys,
I am planning to lift the height of my toyota fortuner by 2" .
I was thinking of many options such as, putting a new lift kit (ome ), spacers 20mm front and back...etc..
But last day , when i saw my car's tires drop down while it was being lifted in the lift , i was wondering what could i do to maintain that height like upto 2" and only compress a little when back on the ground...?
Then i thought its not the shocks that keep the car lifted, its the springs, so if i have stiffer springs , i could get the required lift.
But all of this was just in my mind, and i had to get some basic knowledge about changing to stiffer springs ...!
So guys, what's ur advice, does it really help to just put stiffer springs to achieve a good lift, and if so, what stiffness to get a decent 2" lift..?
Thanks ,
