Garmin Montana - Birdseye

Post by DesertDawg »

I bought a Montana last weekend.

I am trying to figure out how Birdseye works with respect to sharing maps.

This is how I think it works:
GPS.jpg
In which case we should be able to share generic JNX BirdsEye files before they are locked to a Device by BaseCamp on transfer to that Device.

Also, providing you upload your locked JNX files from your Device to your PC, these can be downloaded to the Device again, any time regardless of whether the subscription is active or not (but cannot be shares as they are locked).

Can any GPS Gurus confirm?

Dave

As far as I know
Even if you get birds eye maps by sharing, when you try to transfer them to your Garmin by base camp, it will check your subscription, if active then OK, if not then there will be no transfer.
This is the straight forward, without SPECIAL IT SKILLS, method ;)

There is indeed a firmware patcher to remove the limitation on number of displayed demo-maps and their maximum area.

But your IT Skills need to be good and there is always a risk of crashing your Device.

I will talk to Scotchyl nicely...he has Sweihan downloaded and I will experiment to see if I can share them.

Just thought i would mosey past the board and noticed my name.

More than happy to transfer the files to a usb and you can try to load them onto your garmin.

I think i have about 30 odd maps covering sweihan, abu sallaf, khatim, khanza, faya and al ain.

let me know what works best.

best regards

Zeer, Thanks very much for this. I comes in very handy adding some detail to the very bare Garmin standard maps I have.
