New off roader

Post by George »

I have just bought a 4x4 - Ford Expedition, 2003, 80K miles on the clock - and would like to go off road. SInce I am a beginner, is there a course that you can recommend? Or is it ok simply to come along to a club event?

In any event, is my vehicle suitable? Do I need to have iot checked over. Nothing wrong with it to my knowledge.

Thanks

George

Dear George

Welcome to the club and to the family.

There isnt a course for you to join but what you should look out for are any ANIT trips which are the first step on your off-road journey. These trips are designed for people who want to learn how to drive in the desert and for ANITs you are merely expected to come along and enjoy your time.

As you progress you would become a Newbie, Intermediate etc and there are then bits of kit that you should get.

But for your first time, look for an ANIT, sign up, get your BBQ ready and join us to have some fun. These trips are extremely well run, the safety is great and everything is explained to you.

Hope to meet you in the sand soon.

Hello George,
Welcome to offroading - luckily you have landed up in the best place to start! Apart from the ANIT mentioned above, another place to start is the Absolute Newbie Briefing Document, which is at:

http://www.ad4x4.com/club/download/file.php?id=2322

Also, the forums are frequented by some of the most experienced guys and gals you can find. Its a fantastic resource, if you have any questions about offroading, vehicles, etc.

So welcome again, and hope you enjoy your stay.

Regards,
