VHF RADIO
Hi fellow members and friends,
I am looking to buy a set of radios for our offroading events. I come from a Marine background and I am aware that these toys needs licenses.
I also understand the tolerance from the Govt we have in this country as I have been living here for a few decades.
Now my query is where could I buy a set of radios for our use with AD4X4, do I need a licensed one? Or I could get away with it as I might only be using for a few hours once in a week or maybe even less.
Cheers,

Re: VHF RADIO
Most people use illegal short range hand held US family radio systems purchased from DragonMart in Dubai.
Higher grades use 'marshal' radios with long range and which require a license.
At you grade, get a couple of DragonMart specials and that will do you until you get passed Advanced.

Re: VHF RADIO
Hi Ray,
My friends at the Marine Industry is in the opinion that UHF radios are not meant for civilians/local use and has a higher penalty to face than VHF, so I am a bit lost here.
And the Channel-7 we use on our AD4X4 trips 07 156.350MHz comes under VHF, and they said I should use VHF.
I will check in the shop if these radios can access ch-7 and them if they know...
Anyone who knows technical stuff and experience about this please help, I just dont want to end up buying the wrong Chinese goods and they might not replace it with another kind
Cheers

Re: VHF RADIO
Also having a marine background can not see anything wrong with using the Motorolla, which has nothing to do with singing on channel 16.
Channel 07 is 462.7125!
If you go to the lady in Dragon Mart, she will sell you the correct radio, Motoralla, for dhs 250!

Re: VHF RADIO
Hi Senigal,
You need to get an FRS Frequency radio which uses channelized frequencies around 462 and 467 MHz in the ultra high frequency (UHF) band.
The FRS mainly does not require a license or lets say authorities just allow it for specific purpose such as offroading and construction sites, but if you use it inside the city it will be confiscated.
Dual band radios use the FRS/GMRS - The GMRS radios are not allowed so better get an FRS UHF Walkie Talkie
AD4x4 have it's approved licensed VHF Channel which is only authorized to the club Marshals for security reasons.
Owning and operation a non licensed VHF Radio might get you into legal trouble and will not work with the dedicated AD4x4 Licensed channel.
Get an FRS Radio from Dragon Mart and make sure it is programmed to read all channels from 1 - 22, Radio range should be 462 to 467 MHZ
