Abu Dhabi residents to face water, electricity charge increa

Post by Gladiator »

Residents in Abu Dhabi will face increased utility bills in the New Year, it was announced on Thursday.

The Regulation and Supervision Bureau, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC) and Al Ain Distribution Company (AADC), will introduce new tariffs for “green” and “red” consumption bands from January 1 next.

Tariffs for expat water users living in flats will increase from AED2.20 per 1,000 liters to AED5.95 for people using up to 700 liters per day. There will be a cost reflective tariff for those using more than 700 liters a day.

The water tariffs for expats living in villas will go up from AED2.20 ($0.59) per 1,000 liters to AED5.95 per 1,000 liters, using no more than 5,000 liters per day. Anyone who exceeds 5,000 liters a day will be charged a cost reflective tariff.

Emiratis living in a flat or villa, who do not currently pay water charges, will face new charges of AED1.70 per 1,000 litres - up to daily limit of 7,000 litres a day. Those who exceed the 7,000 litres of daily limit will face a charge of Dh1.89 per 1,000 litres.

The new charges for electricity will see expats in a flat or villa pay 21 fils for each kilowatt-hour (kWh), up from the current charge of 15 fils per kWh. Anyone using more than the daily consumption of up to 20kWh will be charged a reflective tariff for using more.

Emiratis living in a flat or villa, currently paying 5 fils per kWh, will not face any increase unless they exceed the daily limit of 30kWh for a flat and 400 kWh a day for a villa, after which the charge increases to 5.5 fils.
