What Camera is the best for Sand ?

Post by Chuck »

Hi Guys,

last Fridays Sandstorm killed my new Ixus 65 completly.
To entertain you also in future with my brilliant pictures and short movie clips i have to by a new one now.

The camera should have following features:

1. Dust and waterproof, ( shockproof would be an advantage )
2. SD Card slot.
3. Video recording with sound
4. Lightweight and slim
5. Price about 1500 AED

I am not a proffessional photographer so i think 5 Megapixel should be enough for me.

Yesterday i checked in Plug-ins and Carefour a little. In Carefour they had one from Nikon called Coolpix S 10 i think. That was not that bad at all.

Any additional ideas ?

Does anybody know a good shop in Abu Dhabi for repairs of such electronic stuff like cameras / car CD players and so on ?

if you are looking for one thats sand and dust proof then buy the Canon EOS 400D, BUT thats a real camera and it costs u too much...I guess none of the small digicams has any outdoor protection! If you want to make a good buy then dont look on the price! seriously i bought one that was affordable and good and it broke after 500 pics....OR if u buy an Ixus try to get the diving shell with it and u can even throw it into the sand!!

I saw a olympus camera once in carefur that is completely weather proof a couple of month back. I think the price on that one was around 1300.

Sorry it's late, if it doesnt help you, it might help others, found that the Pentax Optio W30 to be a good bet. It's dustproof (Sand grains r bigger so I presume it'd b sandproof too) and waterproof to a depth of 3mtrs.

Below is a link with a full review.
