If you only going to buy the housing then I would go with dynatrac 44 instead of a rubicon housing. You will pay extra $600 but you don't need to reinforce it anymore.
Yes i know, this is what makes me still thinking about the D60 ... i really hope i can find a wrecked F250 D60 ( or D60HD .... :D ) front axle - this would be much better. 35 Spline all the way and the same width as my Ford 9.75 rear axle

No - but the fuel consumption offroad is now around 25-30 liter / 100km for easy trips.
Onroad this morning on sheikh zayed road driving between 90-115 it took around 16l ... this is lesser then with the old engine...

Wow what a bummer !

I changed the alternator to a GM DR44G ( 185 amps max output ) instead of my old Lumina SS 140 amps output alternator because
my Voltage was quit low and my new compressor managed to drain my battery empty while the car was running in no time ...

Ok however first plan was to fix a 2007 Jeep alternator (also 180amps ) but that was quit a hassle and would have meant to fab new custom brackets to fix it. Downside - i still need to trick the Jeep ECU somehow because it is throwing 2 errors ( 1 for the alternator, 1 for the Voltage ) ... i figured i order this :
http://store.alternatorparts.com/hd-ext ... n-kit.aspx

and see how far i can get with it. Actually the sensor is completely disconnected, due to the fact, that the alternator is now controlled from the corvette ECU .

But now comes the nice surprise :
Immediately after starting the engine i noticed, that the engine was idling much smoother and was not stuttering / running a bit irregular as it was before ( i was thinking it was of the spiced crankshaft ... ) ...
But no the engine did not have enough Voltage!!!

Now i'm driving SZR to work with a fuel average of 13,8 - 14,5 liters :-) ... still with the STTs where my old engine was taking minimum 15 but normally around 18 liters...

This is awesome! and a really nice totally unexpected surprise ! I'm very eager to know the offroad consumption now.
If i can drive the car with < 25 liters / 100km offroad continuously ... = > 300km offroading that would be a dream.

Last saturday in the desert i was around 25,6 liters so quit close already (and of course not pushing the car) - but now after the change i expect it to be much better ... :)
Finally it's getting oeconomic!

Of course i can.

Still remains the problem that i don't have the tap shifting ... right now ( will fix it myself next week ) ...
So it's either "D" where the gearbox is shifting quit fast to 6th gear which will let the gearbox shifting wild on steep long ascents with the possibility of having to go turn around and try again (what is ok as long as possible in a safe way ) ...
or 1st gear (but i have to stop to shift into it ) which makes me going anywhere but appears very agressive and throws a lot of sand...
and makes me kind of fly upwards a dune ( this is the buggy mode ) .
With the tap shifting working, then it will be totally relaxed. Mechanically I'm getting the car where i want it step by step it just needs lots of time and effort but i'm convinced that the end result will be a true offroad monster :) For sure i must take care that the driver keeps up with the car as well ...

But yes - i think i found a good mixture and i figured to do almost everything in D position very relaxed now.
As well the huge amount of torque the engine provides and the cooper tires play very well together when driving specially slow.
Xof wrote:did you get armoured studs for your wheels?

I got new studs from jeep for the whole axle (left & right) and carry since then replacement studs with me.

Me and my mechanic suspecting the turning shop to have heated the studs before inserting them...

this is a very good hypothesys... i would agree with it. Still, for some time, you should remove your rear well time by time and check that your studs are not cracked or sheared...

you are "armouring" your full line to bear with the power, but sooner or later the weakest link breaks... so, we have identified one. Just make sure it was just due to missused from the turning shop.

oh yes believe me, i take close looks at my wheels now every time i'm near them. And i know I was really lucky that day - i don't want that to happen ever again on my car. I took off my wheels last time i was in the workshop and took close a look at the studs (again) - they looked good and did not have any damage or cracks.

Has been a while since the last update ...

In the meantime i've been in the workshop several times ... (of course) .... now its already 1 month again since i'm without car...
Actually i lost the 6L80's 2nd Clutch pack (the 3-5-6-R pack)...

But its rebuild already.
But some other things : while playing in Liwa i had serious temperature problems after a while ...
Most probably i don't have enough airflow through the radiator & the radiator might be too small as well (its the GC - srt8 radiator) ...

For now i try putting another (lower temperature) thermostat in it and while try to source some nice louvers or will replace the hood with something with more holes in it (due to my limited space the air can not easily leave the engine bay - which contributes a lot to the problem specially on low speed i think) ....
On highway speed its fine with any temperature but .. well the engine is not really pushed that much & long as when offroading in softspots behind seamutt & mood in liwa   .

So i'll see how i can create a new hood maybe or buy the f**king expensive aev hood ( 6000aed for a hood ? ) ... well.

Ok but most important for now my car is also due to registration renewal so it will get pretty exciting these days.
My A/C is finally fixed ... and my exhaust setup gets a major rework :

I'll change the setup from :
No Resi, No Cat, One 2,5 inch tube into the Corsa Exhaust, 2 tips into

2 Resi, X-Pipe, No Cat, Two 2,5 inch tubes, 2 Muffler, 4 tips (most probably the Corvette exhaust)
This should bring the noise down and increase the airflow    a bit
when i calculate the loss because of the mufflers with around 20% - then i still gain 60 % over the previous setup.
That should be ok.
I'll try the registration then. Oh and my engine mounts were gone as well ... so i'll replace them (doesn't look that nice during the renewal test i think .. )

Oh and then finally i will get "P" again .. (Parking position) and a switch for controlling the manual mode (finally!!!) .

Hope all will be finished around Saturday ...

Remove the weather strip(rubber piece) between the hood and body towards the cabin. this creates a good sized gap in the rear of the engine bay which allows for some venting. i do this on trips all the time and i think it helps a bit

Thanks its a nice idea - maybe i'll give it a try.
Right now i think it would be best to have a louver right behind the radiator fan, so the hot air can go out fast.

Regarding the trouble ... ah i figured i will still have to suffer a bit more until it really runs all without any problems...
But ok ... I already had a lot of fun with the car i wouldn't have had if i hadn't done the mod - so far i'm still fine with it :)

Anybody is selling his heat reduction hood :D ?
