Yes I meant the downstream. There is a conflict on how the PCM will react on a missing downstream sensor. Using the OBD II monitor I got, It shows that there is four fuel trims; two for the up stream sensor and two for the downstream. I assume that some Jeeps came with 4 sensors ?? :?:

At any rate, I'm installing a catalyst convertor, so I believe that will need it anyway.
the newer TJ's with the two piece manifold and the minicats had 4 sensors, ... 1 pre minicat and 1 post minicatcat for each of the two banks 8-)
The 2 downstream sensors usually "only" trigger a code if the minicats go bad ... "...catalyst converter inefficient."

I was supposed to try RB in the dunes this past weekend .. But the exhaust got disconnected and the trip was canceled for me .. :(

Sorry guys for keeping you out of the loop for many things that are going on with the Jeep. I'm Currently working on fixing two main areas.

1- the engine performance and tuning, engine knock, and trying to run the motor with the AEM module.
2- Getting the truck's temperature under control.

Here are some pictures of what went into my truck last week.

The old control arms were replaced with a complete set of Currie Enterprises Adjustable Control arms.

Due to the newly introduced law. I had to replace my 3" exhaust with a smaller 2.5" unit. :(

What you see is Magnaflow Catalyst with Dynamax Cut Back.

To be honest I love the new Quite Jeep..

I realized that I didn't post any pictures for the complete truck yet. So here is a dirty iPhone picture ! :D

awesome Jeep, ossme! (now it is time for a new name ... without "Rust" )

alf mabrouk ... pretty sure you will get the remaining issues sorted out!

Did you put the AEV tummy tuck in as well? The adjustable control arms make only sense wit the TT ... and then adusting them ONCE only for your rear pinion angle WITH TT is the way to go ;)

I realized that I didn't update you guys about the issue I had with the engine. So here is the summary of the issue and the problems I went through and the status so far.

When we ran the stroker engine for the first time. It had a knocking noise. This is usually caused by either a bad fuel mixture or improper timing. to solve the issue, I send the truck to Patriot in Abu Dhabi to have a look at it. I clearly instructed them to have a look at the whole system before giving me any judgments. They called me back stating that the solution to my problem will be installing a very expensive piece of piggy back Computer system. After many assurances, I agreed for this to go ahead.

That turned out to be a big mistake. I ended up with a very expensive piggy back system that didn't solve any of my problems. Not only that, Patriot have missed up the computer wiring of my Jeep! It looks so ugly right now and will fail any Muroor Inspection !

I asked them for the programing software and they refused to give it to me claiming that it is just for them and I need to come to them if I need to do any modifications. This is a loud of BULLS*&T! The software came with the box and so did the bypass cable that they made me pay 100Dhs extra for !

I didn't argue with them much, as it is useless to argue with gangsters, So I downloaded the required software for FREE from the Internet using AEM's official website !

So this is a BIG WARNING PEOPLE: DO NOT DEAL WITH OR BUY ANYTHING FROM PATRIOT IF YOU TRULY LOVE YOUR TRUCK.

Yes, I got the tummy tuck and Control arms installed yesterday. :)

BTW, what shop will you recommend to do the adjustment for the control arms ? :?:

Back to the Jeep. I took Saturday off and decided to work on the Jeep my self. After couple of emails to Golen and after inspecting my Jeep. It turned out that I do not have any O2 sensors. It is not that they are missing, Jeep did not even care to install them in 1997 Gulf Spec Jeeps.

The solution was to get an American Spec Computer and New O2 sensors. This solved the fuel mixture issue but not the timing issue I was having. Have I not paid AED3000 for an AEM, the fix for the timing cost something like $50. I now run the AEM to fix the timing and I do not have any knocking issues.

I might end up replacing the AEM with the cheap mods to avoid issues with police in the future. I will need a full week to do that as I would need to fix the PCM Cables that Patriot butchered.

But for now, I'm keeping the AEM in hopes that It can be programed (by the right guys) to make the engine perform better. The good guys at MotorTech has offered to take RB to Dubai for tuning. unlike Patriot, I trust MotorTech and I might hand them off the truck to do so. :)

cool ... CA adjustment? I did it at WM long time ago ... but honestly, this is no magic!

rear lowers have to be slightly (0.5"-1.0") shorter than stock
... rear uppers longer than stock in such a way that ON THE GROUND the pinion angle is 1* lower than main shaft angle.
all in all you have THEN to check if your tires fill the wheel well correctly under full compression (without coils) and that your bump stops still land on the pad and not in the coil

You have an angle finder? If not, you can borrow mine. ;)

Right Now, I have two main issues and both are related to my beloved Stroker engine.

1- Performance.

The truck Pulls really nice in street speeds. a little throttle and it will pickup speed without issues. But three issues remain to be solved:
  • There is a very annoying chock when I load the engine at low RPMs
  • The engine doesn't like full throttle.
  • The engine loses any interest in accelerating after 3,000RPM. and things get really bad after 4,000RPM.
2- Cooling.

I'm facing issues with Cooling that I'm going to discuss in details later. But the cooling is really unstable. I haven't had any overheating issues yet. But it is a disaster that is waiting to happen. :?

3- the lefter noise:

After having a look at many stroker engines. The lefter noise I have is not normal. It is not a big issue as the other two. But If it is slightly wrong then I need to fix it.

Thanks for the tips. Do you mean the normal Construction site angle finders ?

The Bucket is looking truely magical. I saw it yesterday at Motortech and was so impressed by what I saw - from an outside/non technical point of view.

Cannot wait to see you back in the desert with your beauty - no longer can be called a beast. Far too "pretty".

Thanks Sam !

I spent full day yesterday doing a huge amount of reading. I also spent last night talking with Golen, the engine manufacturer, and also had some Forum Correspondence. I came up good and bad news:

Good news:
1- I now know the exact steps needed to diagnose and solve the engine related issues.
2- The engine is just going to get even more powerful !

Bad news:
1- It will take at least another week before I receive the equipment I need to diagnose the issue.
2- It will require a lot of manual labor, I need to do stuff mostly by my self.
3- It may take an additional week or two depending on the engine diagnostic.

Back to Rust Bucket This week. I hope that the project starts moving again very soon. :)

If you read through the past 17 pages, you will know that the two main things that are holding the project:

1- the knocking issue.
2- the overheating issue.

I came to believe that the second issue is the cause of the first. the engine is basically running lean, and that is why it runs hotter. To investigate this in a more scientific way. I decided to install a wide band sensor. :)

Having said that, I hate installing gauges and I want to keep my truck as stock looking as possible. Install an AFR now, air tank pressure later, few other gauges after than, and I will end up with a interior of a boy racer! :?

Therefore, I decided to only install a single gauge. That single gauge should give me all current and future information I need. I shopped around, placed some orders, and this is what I received Yesterday.
Image

After a brief unboxing, it looks like this:
Image

As you can see, I ordered PLX DM-100 and could of sensor modules with it.
Image
The main unit reads directly from the OBD II. This allow me to read some useful information out of the engine's PCM. Things like that exact engine temperature, trims, error codes and many more will be easily accessible.

Having said that, the PCM can only support Narrow band data. Therefore I bought this:
Image
The sensor will provide the DM-100 with Wide Band AFR information. :ugeek:

One additional thing I bought was an SM-FluidPressure sensor module.
Image
why do I need that ? We will see later! ;)
